Street Legal Dune Buggy?

So I was thinking about buying this dune buggy. Right now it doesn't have a title. I would want to eventually make it street legal, so I could commute legally in it. I figured with all the knowledge on this board someone would surely know. I know i would have to get a title. I'm sure lights, blinkers, flashers?, taillights, reverse lights, tag light, windshield, and some kind of seat belt. Hopefully someone will chime in.
Thanks everyone!!!

Re: Street Legal Dune Buggy?

i wanna build one, correction, i am gonna build one eventually. you know it says in the law that your windshield cant be cracked to the point where it disrupts visibility, BUT it does not say you have to have one. my buddy ike told me a friend of his went in and they said they couldent pass him because of the crack in the windshield, he said show me the law, they did. he saw it dident say he had to have one, so he stomped it out right there and said, now inspect it, and they did. im gonna ask him tomorrow where he put the inspection sticker though. lol when i build mine its gonna have a mild 327/th350, and be about the same size as that. power to weight baby!!!!! lmao, ill probably kill myself in it but ill have fun doin it. good luck with yours(if you get it).

Re: Street Legal Dune Buggy?

Put some paddle tires on the back and some slicks on the front and come down to Little Sahara in Oklahoma that is dune buggy proving ground unless you make the trip to Glamis. Really though don't know how to make street legal but they are a ton of fun on sand.

Re: Street Legal Dune Buggy?

When I got mine registered, a State Trooper came out and checked it and checked the VIN number on the tunnel. From my understanding you have to have a VIN number from an existing car of some sort (in my case it was a '59 Volkswagen chassis). Mine is a quad cab dunebuggy The video below was done by the guy I got it from.

I like this style dune buggy. I may actually do something with it someday.

Re: Street Legal Dune Buggy?

I had a street legal one years ago, very similar to the picture. Inspection was more like a motorycle then. I had brake lights, turn signals, no windshield. I put the sticker between two pieces of plexiglass and screwed it to the rollcage. Lots of fun and my kids enjoyed it as well! Have fun!! Oh, I did pop rivet a shiney piece of aluminum diamond plate to the top of the cage to keep out the HOT Texas sun.
