Alternative mirror choices

Anyone running something other than the standard 67-72 Chevy mirrors? I'm restoring a 72 blammy/Jizzer and looking for some inspiration. The truck is being built as a daily driver/casual off road rig.

The stock sport mirrors are a little small for my taste and I'd like to avoid chrome. I've had bad experiences with after market chrome pitting after a year or two.

I haven't seen anything that speaks to me yet. I was thinking about using a door mounted mirror from some other vehicle like an H1 or wrangler and modifying the base to work with the shape of the blazer door.

Something like these maybe.....

I'm curious to see what responses you get. I have the tripod mirrors, but I'm getting ready to replace my doors and I'm not sure I want to drill the new doors for the tripods.

I probably should have got new doors for as much time I spent fixing the ones I have... after stripping them down there were mirror mounting holes all over. They were just covered up with bondo. I'm pretty sure the have had about every mirror option installed at some point in their life.

Sorry I don't have a photo but last summer I saw a 70 C10 with first gen S10 mirrors. They had fabricated a new tube for the mount that was longer and it came out of the door skin through a grommet and the mount was inside the door. Super clean looking.

I don't have a pic but I saw in a magazine online years ago. Guy took the 1985 ish blazer mirrors I like and cut the contour of the door into the mirror base so it would sit the way you would want. always wanted to try that when I get mine running again

A PO put on chrome Squarebody mirrors on my '71 Jimmy. When I first bought it, I had a purist agenda and was gonna restore it to vintage-correct, below-the-eyeline mirrors, but after I got used to them I didn't care.
I like the 3:4 aspect ratio. It's like watching TV.

I just saw your mirror pic. Not a purist myself, I've had a similar style in the past and I like them.

It's hard to see, but do those follow the body line or is there a gap?

Do you know how I would search for those?

There's a big stupid gap - about 1/2'' deep and 3 - 4'' wide. I'll try ro shoot that angle later. The pic is from 2006 and side view mirrors were not the focus.
Possibly you could whittle a wood fillet to close the gap. It whistles a bit, but not anything like the West Coast Juniors on my Stepside.

Squarebody ['73 - '87] GM truck parts are everywhere. Try the classifieds, C-list, local auto parts, J C Whitney's, junkyards, LMC Truck...

Mirror pix as promised:
top - Glint from Sun on gas cap thru gap under door mirror.
mid - A 1/2'' drive ratchet handle almost goes thru it.
bot - Driver side air gap looking forward.

I saw a blazer years ago owner took the squarebody mirrors and took the time to make the bracket cover fit the contour of the 72 door. I thought they looked sharp. that's something i have planned to try but haven't yet.

I think it would be easier to add a fillet in the empty space than to remove material from the cover. It's probably pot metal -- not the easiest thing to modify, and you'd have to grind a lot off the top ''shoulder'' to get close.

Thanks for that 68. Way too much gap. I like the mirrors though. I wonder if all that style have the same base base contour. I may get some junkyard ones and see if I can grind em to fit. I'll end up painting them the same color as the truck.

It may be possible to discard the squarebody cover, and fabricate a fairing to fit the 69-72 body contour out of sheet metal, aluminum or fibreglas.

More of a project than I need to tackle now. I need to get the brakes bled and adjusted.

These were on my Blazer when I bought it, I think they are just some cheap mirrors from an auto parts store painted to match.

I’d get the tripod and just powder coat them black
