Did one using a Saginaw, shouldn't be any different. No build thread but might be able to help with a question.

Re: muncie 4 speed and a hydraulic clutch

Go to Post #135,136 and 159 of the link in my signature, that will show you how I did it. I a nutshell I used captainfab’s master cylinder and pedal linkage with the firewall hydraboost bracket. For the clutch setup, I used a 12” LUK from NAPA for a 72 K20. I used an 80’s sm465 hydraulic clutch bellhousing which isn’t mandatory but makes the slave mounting easier. I used an 80’s truck slave from NAPA. The clutch line is explained in #159. If you have any further questions post them up.

Re: muncie 4 speed and a hydraulic clutch

I guess the clutch assembly would be the same, but do you mean Muncie truck or car transmission? I hadn't thought that far into it, but my '67 SWB project will have an M22 car transmission. Reading this has me wondering if I'd want to consider hydraulic for ease of exhaust routing/header clearance. As it stands now, I have a set of Sanderson block hugger the seller said were on a 67-72 of his. But I might want to run 4wd full length headers (don't hand below the chassis). I also have a set of those new

Re: muncie 4 speed and a hydraulic clutch

special-k its a Muncie car transmission and I'm wondering if I could use stuff off of a 1995 truck like clutch master, and slave cylinder also maybe throw out bearing???

Re: muncie 4 speed and a hydraulic clutch

Ok, same thing I'd be doing if I go that route. I'll watch for info on this.

I may be wrong, but the conversion would be between the slave push rod and clutch arm with no change on the inside. I had a '92 w/NV4500 and went round and round with blown masters and slaves. plunger movement was obviously beyond limits with no adjustment provision. Finally I inspected inside the bellhousing and found that the ball on the pivot had worn down severely enough to affect range of motion. No lube provision on that part.

Wouldn't you need a bellhousing from the same truck? I bet you could do a more simple method using less specific parts and make your own mount for the slave.

I had a '69 W200 Power Wagon I swapped a '68 cab from a D300 onto. Those two year trucks had the same grille but had many major difference. The D/W 3oo series is built like a medium duty with straight rail frame. This caused the linkage from the pedal to be too long and be at a steeper angle. I shortened it and that left me with an extremely hard to depress pedal that once let of gave instant on/of clutch action, no control over engagement/disengagement. No go!

'68 was the last year for hydraulic clutch. Great! I'll just grab one at the junk yard, problem solved. Wrong! It wasn't the fact that the slave cylinder was mounted on the right side for some confounded reason that hung me up, it was the fact that those bellhousings have a web that slips down between the flywheel and block... for some confounded reason. It was the fact that they are 1/2" deeper meaning not compatible with transfer case location therefore driveshaft lengths, too.

What I came up with was stay with the '69 bellhousing and make a slave mount out of steel plate to bolt to the driver side bottom of the bellhousing. Then I made a push rod between the slave and '69 clutch arm. Clutch arm-in were left as built with the lever to hydraulic conversion contained in the slave location and push rod. I used hardened all thread to have adjustment. Worked like a charm

That was a long story, but the bees knees is using '86-'91 squarebody parts.
