checkoff list

i have a 1972 c10 swb stepside. just got it to run and body id in ok condition but will definitely need to replace driverside front fender. and replace some of the po's mistakes like rigging the wires to where headlights blinkers ignition( lost key so rigged a crappy pushbutton) and new paint. so i really want to res-erect this truck back to previous glory and hopefully better. i have replaced some lines and have a brand new complete wiring harness. i have only driven the truck three times around the block and would love to be able to register it and enjoy it while i fix it up. so what im asking is can i do all the work and do the paint and stuff later? because i know ill just have to take everything back out to paint. so what is your reserecting cheatsheet?
