Broken Axle

My good buddy has an 02 Suburban.

He had it towed it to a shop because it started making a terrible noise from the rear diff, and it dumped all the gear oil. Shop said it has a broken axle caused from a bearing that went out, and it needs a full rebuild from wheel to wheel.

They want $2600 to rebuild it.

Does that sound reasonable? The truck has 175k miles, and he said its a 5 lug rear end, but I think they are all 6 lug right?

Seems like a good candidate for a junkyard rear end....

Umm i think 2600 is high you can get a reman jasper for 1000, about 2 hours labor to install i think i would do a junkyard rear end for around 450 buxs....

Re: Broken Axle

The price is kinda high. I would call another shop and get a quote

Jasper has a good warranty, but their quality is hit and miss.

Who said it was 5 lug, the owner of the suburban? or the someone from the shop?

They are all 6 lug.

Re: Broken Axle

The owner said it was 5 lug, but he probably doesn't know. It has aftermarket wheels, and they probably have a center cap.

Is there a 5 lug option?
