Re: Project “Blue Bomb” (rebirth of a 1970 c30)

Before and after on 1 of 4 weld repairs / touch up. I think he did some feathering but it's a really great match.

I love the hood too. That black primer is awesome when it peaks through.

The marker lights have blue masking tape on them in that photo. I hadn't thought of changing that, but I agree that is a neat/different look!

I'm not typically a fan of glossy patina, but that really is eye catching!

I feel the same way. I love the look of original paint just as it is normally.

Re: Project “Blue Bomb” (rebirth of a 1970 c30)

The 19.5’s are off for powdercoat. I finally found a 6th tire. All six are used but less than 3 years old. New tires were definitely not in the budget, those things go for nearly $400 each for quality brands!

Re: Project “Blue Bomb” (rebirth of a 1970 c30)

I got the 19.5’s back from powdercoat. The current plan is to take the HO72 out next and refresh it, and go through the front and rear brakes and new driveline parts. It’s got some leaks and you have to pull the axles to get to the brakes. I bought a 1970 chassis manual, I am thinking about doing a detailed write up on it since there is so little info on them. Did some research and got some parts coming.

Had to take a break from the projects today to work on my Silverado. When I bought this I was looking at 2500’s for towing but the torque, hp, and trailer rating on the 1500’s is better than my previous 2002 k2500hd. Found out that although all those things are true, it squats really bad when loaded. So I added helper springs in the rear and a leveling kit in front to even it out. It came up just over 2” in the rear and just under 2” up front. It rides like a 4x4 half ton should! Looks like it should too imho...

Re: Project “Blue Bomb” (rebirth of a 1970 c30)

Any interest in the original cab light/rubber/harness setup? It’s in good condition, all bulbs even work. Before I splice in the new sockets I figured I would see if anyone is interested. Although I’m not sure if I’m up for fishing new wire through the cab...

Been waiting for clear weather before opening up the roof for these guys...

Rear suspension is out for a refresh, and painting. I hope I can get this done while I remember how it all goes together...

Looking better, in the neighbor hood!!!

What settings did you have on welder to make all those "hole" fill in repairs? I have welded some sheet metal, still learning...

Paint looks good!!! I think you should have just laid down the blue over the bare spots!!!

You DO know doing all these things during this season, you make all of us jealous that don't have the awesome So Cal weather!!!
