Re: The Gillette Ad.....more bad marketing

Honestly, companies pushing social/political agendas on me become useless in my world. I just cut them out.
I feel the same way about famous people who think that because they are famous for whatever reason gives them the right to preach to the rest of us.
They get removed from my life as well.
It’s pretty simple.
They get cut out as well.

I just ordered from Dorco. Thanks for the heads up. I am tossing my Gillette Mach III after a decade or two or three, can't remember. It may be foolish and over reacting but it makes me feel better none the less.
I am really tired of the current man bashing. Strangely enough this all started with the Weinstien types which were only able to exist and prey on women because of the very people leading the current stampede on men. Just my take

Just remember it’s the New York City ad “men” that pitch this crap and the “PC” department at the clients office that goes with it. See post #41.

Safety razors for the win. 100 sharp blades can be had for less than $20. Gillette has been over-priced trash for years anyway.

Re: The Gillette Ad.....more bad marketing

Respect begets respect....and the 20-30 yr. efforts to make fun of men and Dads is starting to take its toll...probably including on a lot of sons now and the data is showing that their esteem has indeed been hit hard.

True story relevant to this bad Gillette ad:
There is a major Canadian retailer (multi-billion dollar chain, similar to Lowes) called 'Canadian Tire'....which is a massive multi-product chain that started as a hardware/tire store 100 yrs ago.
This company had noticed a drop in their saturday morning traffic...and thus their saturday morning profits.
The majority of their saturday traffic was typically men.
So they hired a group to investigate what was happening and why.
At first they thought the usual....wrong saturday specials? wrong pricing? not enough discount?...why the drop in Male/men traffic.
Nope.
The reason that business was down was that men were no longer feeling valued by the store.
Why?.....all of their ads over the previous years had been showing the ads that did not portray men and fathers in a positive light.

We all know these ads
They show the 'dufus dad'...and you know the one....he falls backwards into the pool while bbq'ing, asks his wife how to put in washer fluid, holds the baby upside down, fumbling, dumb, .....you know, the average Dad and guy.
All the while his near super model-wife...stands in the corner of the kitchen staring sadly at him with her arms folds and with the kids by her side, all shaking their heads at the family idiot....the Dad.
We've all unfortunately seen these ads.

Well, when they found out that marketing angle was the reason that their profits were down...they changed their tune and their marketing.
Now, when they do an ad that shows men, they show the reality of men and fathers helping their kids, fixing their bikes, capable, showing them how to build a birdhouse, (hopefully this all or most of you guys and myself)...all in a positive light or lets a much more honest light.

This is also the reason for making sure that sons learn these honorable skills and methods.

....regardless, the backlash against this ad has been excellent and right.
Now when I hear the words 'Gillette'....I walk, adios.
I have no time for people that play that type of identity politic around me.

Go Men Go! lol

All good

Precisely why in an earlier post I stated that I don't really care. Companies should stick to telling us why their products are useful or better than the other guys. Don't tell us how to act or think.

I'm also tired of celebrities and their "Foundations" for everything under the sun. Don't get me wrong, there are a number of worthwhile causes out there. My daughter is a St. Jude patient. (Thank you Danny Thomas.) But, do they all have to attach their name to something? There is such a thing as doing good and being humble.

Re: The Gillette Ad.....more bad marketing

Me too. I'm a man of principal. Of course, basically, I block out all advertising except for entertainment. I don't need someone to tell me what I want, need, or should buy. If I need info for comparison before purchase I know how to research and evaluate to make my own decision on what's best for me. How many ads these days actually tell you what makes their product better? If it's advertised on TV they have already made their millions and it's as much a write off as it is trying to stay in the game. Most everything advertised on TV everybody already knows about.

And buying razor blades has never been an important decision in my life. They all shave you. I use a simple double edge just because that's the handle I have had for 25-30 years. I think the triple edge was the gimmick I had no need for at the time. I got double edge because they were everywhere and singles were harder to find. I pay so little attention to this I'm not sure what brand it is. It's always a problem when I go for more razor heads because you can't see (deliberately I'm sure) how they attach when in the package and the razor handle doesn't say what it is. I buy them so infrequently I never remember. Maybe they'll get so tired of returned product they'll do something about it.

I just need to know what razor you fellers are using on your legs. I get nicked so much I'm too embarrassed to wear shorts unless I pull my socks up to my knees

Re: The Gillette Ad.....more bad marketing

Advertisers know the younger audience havent made up their minds about razors, beer or wherever they are selling yet. The target are those who are starting to make decisions for themselves after leaving their parents home.
People over 40 and up already know what razor works for them or what beer they like.
Advertisers won’t waste their resources trying to convince someone that is settled in life.

Incrementally they are dismantling what is known as America. Raising a child "gender neutral" is actually a thing today. They are making kids today fear everything so as they age they will strive to create laws outlawing everything they fear. Socialism is gaining a huge foothold in this country and it's not a good thing.

This is socialism? What the? I think you are way off there. Has nothing to do with any of this, and you just made a political post, so no more of that.

Re: The Gillette Ad.....more bad marketing

OK, so I thought I would report back. I decided to give Dollar Shave Club a try. They want you to try a whole lot of products in their sample pack - I opted only for the razor and shave butter. I didn't really like the scent of the shave butter, but the razor is fine. It's got like two or three dozen blades on it (actually, I think it's 6) which took some getting used to (been using twin blades for years), but they're not bad razors and the quality seems to be good. It cuts my beard (I'd say it's a medium coarseness) pretty easily and it feels pretty smooth. I'm going to go check out Dorco, but so far I'm not missing my Gillette razors too much.

Now I have to give up Bud Light because of their supper bowl commercial shaming corn syrup. I may as well go off the grid so I can still enjoy some products I've used/consumed for decades. It's a lot easier giving up Gillette! Now I have some real sole searching going on with the Bud Light lol. Seriously these companies need to think before they approve these commercials. Why don't they just advertise we really hate you and just wanted to tell you that.

About your legs Special K. Give it time, Gillette will be advertising there new product line for mens needs on that soon. I would say in two years many product lines dedicated to women will be advertised for men. Feminine napkins will be the only thing left for the ladies. Unless they figure out how to change that too.

Oh, I'm sure feminine napkins will be included in that as a way to fill that void between these guys', I mean born male people's, legs. They won't even need to change the name. I can hear them now, "Feminine napkin.... that has a nice ring to it. I like that!"

They'll probably change the name to "Splot Blot" and market them to men so they can use them instead of toilet paper when they cut their faces while shaving.

".....I just need to know what razor you fellers are using on your legs."

lol....well, don't worry too much about that.

Testosterone in males has dropped over 40% since the late 1950's (now approaching 50%) and is dropping approximately 1% per year.

That means....leg hair or chest hair will probably be a thing of the past....and any trip to the beach these days pretty much proves that out with younger generation, lol.

The reasons for this are pretty interesting....and a little scary...regardless.

Again, its going to take the worry out of having a houseful of grandkids, lol
....one maybe.

Our opinions aside.

I’d be really curious to know what this ad has done to their sales. If they’ve increased or decreased. I kinda figure that they are so big and control so much of the market and memories are so short that it doesn’t really matter.
