Door Striker Adjustment Maxed Out?

I just installed new weather stripping on inner door areas and now the back side by door handle of both doors stick out over 1/2-3/4" from the cab. I loosened the door lock Strikers and adjusted them towards the inside of the cab, but they both barely moved before being maxed out. If I put pressure and push the doors in they line up perfect, so all I need is the striker moved another 1/2-3/4 towards the cab interior.

All I can think is to drill out the striker hole more to give more adjustment, has anyone ever done this?

I am going to guess that after you installed the new seals that you are only catching the first click on the door latch. Try moving the striker ro the outside untill you catch both clicks, then adjust.

You called it. Wasn't aware there were two click in the latch - just went outside and adjusted the strikers the opposite direction and it worked great, latches double clicked and doors lined right up. thanks man.

Yeah it makes perfect sense now for sure, good to know there are two clicks, just wasn't aware and those strikers were driving me mad.

Re: Door Striker Adjustment Maxed Out?

also the plastic wears out and falls off .

makes them sloppy and rattle .

some have had good luck with PEX tube cut to length and slid on for a cheep / effective fix .

Re: Door Striker Adjustment Maxed Out?

I had trouble closing the drivers door on my 86. Next thing to slamming it to get it to close. Bought a new striker bolt with the plastic sleeve on it and now works perfect.....

1/2" PEX tubing works great for a replacement sleeve on the striker.

Re: Door Striker Adjustment Maxed Out?

Do you take the washer off or slide it over the torx head part? I would think it would be kinda sloppy on the stud doing it that way. Only $10. for a new one so wasnt real bad but the pex is cheaper for sure.

Take the washer off and put it on that way. It can be a little hard to get over the threads. Or the quick fix way is to cut your size, then cut a slit along the side and put it on the striker that way. I've never had a problem doing it that way.
