Re: Power steering too easy

or you could take it somewhere and get an actual alignment. There's caster, camber and toe-in and once you've got some caster angle, changing the toe in, changes camber. Likewise, changing caster will change you're toe-in and camber.
With an alignment rack, the tech can see all the angles at once and if he/she's good, can make one change to fix more than one angle/adjustment at a time.
Toe in will also affect they steering feel. If it's not right, the truck will want to go left or right but not straight.
Being that this isn't a stock truck, you'll have to find someone with an open mind to do the alignment. Basically, they're going to have to use alignment specs from a 67 or later model that had power steering. Not something they would do at a big franchise tire store or wallie world.
$50-75 and you'll save that much in tire wear the first year with a good alignment.

Re: Power steering too easy

Well I have had an alignment. But maybe I should take it to another shop. One things for sure. Just sitting still it's obvious there's too much pressure in the PS. It's less than one finger easy to spin the wheel.

When you increase the caster it will not be that easy to turn the wheel . The increased caster causes the suspension to lift the front of the truck . Gravity opposing this lift is what returns the steering to center and make the truck tack straight when driving down the road. The whole reason these trucks came with little caster was the effort of the manual steering . You definitely want to add caster before you reduce pump pressure. Without the added caster you will still not like the way it drives down the high way any more than you did with manual steering.

Alright then, I'll check the caster, adjust and report back. I appreciate everyones input.
