lowest gear that will fit

Working on Panel's rearend and seems it came with 3.08 gear. Ok for now but
not going to work with new cam, intake, headers and ported heads that are starting to gather. Wonder whats lowest gear that wil fit carrier?Thinking 3.42,would like to go 3.73. That with 700r4 and 2400 stall converter I have should make for fun stop lights.

Re: lowest gear that will fit

If it's a 12 bolt truck rear end a 3.08 gear will have a 3 series carrier. The 3.73's and lower (numerically higher) require a 4 series carrier.

Re: lowest gear that will fit

There are 3.73 gear sets available that will bolt to a 3 series truck 12-bolt carrier. Might cost a bit more though.

Re: lowest gear that will fit

You can get "thick" ring gears for a series 3 carrier, all the way up to 4.56.
