Which fuel sender

I have to order fuel sender and of course it needs to match the fuel guage! My question is it seems most of the aftermarket gauge kits for 56 Chevy are 0-30 ohm. Are the 0-90 ohm units any better? I could get the dash insert and buy a 0-90 ohm 2 1/16 inch fuel and other gauges separately.

I do think the dash insert with all gauges installed will be less expensive. I also am planning on going with the ramjet 350 so don't know if that matters for any of the other gauges that may come with the complete unit.

Re: Which fuel sender

The sender resistance must match what the gauge is expecting. A 0-90 Ohm unit would show "full" around 1/3 tank with a gauge designed for 30 ohms.

The Ramjet engine computer does not talk to the gauges.

I'd suggest picking your gauges first, then making sure you have the correct sender for each gauge.

Re: Which fuel sender

If you go with a dash insert consider the Speedhut gauges. Their fuel gauge is programmable so it works with any sender.

For my truck I bought New Vintage gauges which wasn't compatible with my 0-90 ohm sender in my S10 tank. I wanted to used the sender/fuel pump assembly for the gauge in the tank so I had to pay New Vintage to convert the gauge.

My understanding is that the 0-90 ohm gauges are more accurate than the 0-30 ohm gauges.

If you can get a matched set 90 ohm gauge and a 90 ohm sending unit, I would.

The issue you will have is retrofitting a 90 ohm sending unit to a stock tank.

Re: Which fuel sender

GM gauges up to about 1964 use a 30 ohm after 64 use a 90 ohm. swapping a 90 for a 30 will give you a false reading.

Re: Which fuel sender

Hey thanks for the responses...

First off I am going with aftermarket gauge cluster with there being more 0-30 ohm replacement dash inserts with matching gauges and I have replaced the stock tank to the rear frame position.

I have also read that the 0-90 ohm units are more accurate but as said there appears to be more choices of gauge clusters and matching senders in the older style 0-30 ohm.

Now I know so can pick a sender.

Thanks all!!!
