Post Found an old Sun Tach today (pics)

Found this one, did some checking and it's from the late 50's early 60's. Looks like the transmitter is in good shape too.

How much did you pay for that? I bought an old Stewart Warner tach from the early sixties for my '58 a while back and payed $80 without a transmitter. I could've bought one like yours for $600, thought the SW was a better deal though!

I've got a crusty old tach around here somewhere, looks a bit like that...my dad had it on his '68 Firebird, which he bought in 1970, just for reference, heh...I actually used it for quite a while, then the light on it burned out. Took it apart to try and fix it, couldn't do that, and when we went to put it together, we discovered it would just go to zero as soon as we tightened the back screw all the way; loose, it works fine. Eh, got a nice new tach on it now, much better. =)

I have SW Tach that I aquired out of a 57 chevy firetruck we dimanteled .It is all set up for a 6 cyl.If I had an old instrument cluster that I did not care about I would mount it wher the tach goes. Its probably worth more to someone else though.

You have a good find there. Back in the '60's, having a Sun tach was way cool! Every good hotrod had one on the column or dash. I'd have one on my truck if I could find a nice one.

Only thing about these is that the transmitter take 2 weird batteries that look like AA size. I did find a place that can convert it to solid state so it works like the new ones and you can keep the transmitter box so it looks like it's hooked up too.

Hey, like the old tach. I chose to get the factory tach. It cost $228.00 It came with everything you need. (glass, harness and all) I bought it at www.kennystrucks.com last year.
