Looks like you'll have a lot of the same rust issues I had with my '57. I detailed how I dealt with fixing all that in my build thread. If you want to see what you are going to be getting into, check it out when you get time.
Will do thanks

My oldest vehicle was an 81 mighty max and I took my 56 Chevy short box project over from its previous owner with it 75% dismantled with parts in boxes and crates so it's been awesome reading about these trucks and learning how to reassemble and repair, modify and restore it.

I'll be following your progress, as I'm looking forward to watching you turn this truck into something nice. Thankfully there are alot of good guys and gals on these forums who are knowledgeable and willing to help!
All I drive is older vehicles love them, but this 59 is a totally new area for me. Yes I love this site.

Grill and bumper removed without much fight. Grill will need some patchwork on bottom side but otherwise not bad.

Re: Back to the fifties with a 59 project

been doing some metal work on the grill, it was rusted out in the bottom. I started on the bad side got it almost done little more tacking and grinding. The other side it is much better, then on to the body work for it. It's not perfect but i have several hours in it and saveing some cash. It will be painted anyway so i figured i would try fixing it. Would help alot if i had gas on my welder but doing the best i can. Useing a square body scrap fender for patches

Not bad, fit was good. Parts were ordered from classic parts of america, patches were key parts brand I believe.

Thought i was done with the fender, but saw a small rusted place and decided to fix it. Removed the headlight cup and patched it and now it's done moving on.

Re: Back to the fifties with a 59 project

Started on the driver door, rebuilt the hinges and started sheet metal repair. Ordered some patch panels for the bottom part. If i can fix this door the other should be a breeze.

Just wanted to say this before the second page goes by: Terribly, terribly sorry to hear of the loss of your first child. If there's a Heaven her immaculate soul will be there waiting for her mommy & daddy that loved her so. Sincere Condolences.

On a happier subject, that engine truly THREW that rod! Yikes. Curious why you took it apart? Curiosity or tentative plan to try to rebuild it?

Thank you, I think of her and hurt everyday missing her. She did make me a better, humbler man I realize what is important in life. Not jobs, money, possessions etc. but God, family and friends and experiences. We plan on having her some siblings praying for that.

Yea, I wanted to find out, ( be nosy ) and find out what the inside of the engine looked like. I plan on either a 250 inline 6 or maybe a v8, rather have the 6 I think with maybe some hot rod parts.

Re: Back to the fifties with a 59 project

While i'm waiting on parts, i decided to try to fill some holes/thin spots on the headlight bezel. It coming ok so far i really need a smaller grinder to get in there. I'm trying to save all the original metal i can in the name of learning and to save money. Sometimes maybe more work than worth don't know.
