Retrofitting a '91 Suburban

Hi! I'm from the 60-66 forum but I wandered over here because a family friend of mine bought a 91 Burb with no engine and no transmission, and has since put a (I believe) modified 383 carbureted engine and a transmission that fits correctly to the driveshaft and bolts to the engine. I don't pretend to know anything about these era cars. My question is: Are there going to be some problems with the computer system? Like, will the computer sense that certain wires are not attached and refuse to start the engine?

Re: Retrofitting a '91 Suburban

I think the only trouble will be with the speedometer not working.

I'm not sure what all is integrated, but for the speedo you just need the dash and cable from an earlier truck.

Re: Retrofitting a '91 Suburban

As it turns out, it's got an electronic sensor. Thanks for the input though. We fired it up today. It leaks transmission fluid, so badly that if someone stole it we'd be able to find it in about 20 minutes. But it doesn't have any exhaust pipes or mufflers, just the manifolds. Dang near blew my ears out. We only ran it for five minutes, at most. Couldn't hear a blamed thing for the next ten.
