Factory gague questions

I have a 67 c10. It still has the factory gauges. I really didn't drive it but 1 time to get it home with the original engine, so I'm not sure where the gauge needles were for normal operation.

Just swapped in a v8. I'm curious the approximate numbers that my gauges stand for. For example, my oil pressure is pretty close to the "H" even at idle when cold. It will touch the "H" with some RPMs. Ok?

So far (limited running), the volt gauge is just over 1/2,and the temp gauge is a little less than 1/2.

thanx

Re: Factory gague questions

The factory oil pressure gauge is 60 psi at the top end. Mine does the same; it is pegged to the max when cold.

The temp gauge sounds OK too, and does your battery gauge look something like the picture below with the engine running? With no numbers on the bat gauge, it really just shows whether it's charging or discharging.

And does it still stay on the right side of centre with the headlights and heater fan on? If so, it all sounds about normal.

Re: Factory gague questions

thanx burb. wish it had numbers but that helps.

I don't think my volt gauge is quite that high, but it is north of the middle. gonna take a look at it with everything on, good idea.

Re: Factory gague questions

As long as the needle reads on the "charge" side of middle, things should be OK. You might not see it as far over as in my photo because that pic was taken when I was checking-out my gauge and had a 1.5 volt battery hooked to the gauge wiring. The battery gauge measures the difference in voltage between the alternator and the battery.

The gauge is connected thru the black and the black/white wires with the little fuses in-line.

Does anyone know what the temp gauge numbers would be?
