Tailgate straps

Anybody have ideas for silencing the rattle from the tailgate stays? The driver's side on mine rattles something fierce, but the passenger side seems OK.

Thanks,
Herb

Re: Tailgate straps

Change them over to the newer truck style cable straps. I'm pretty sure there are a few threads over this topic in the truck forum.

Re: Tailgate straps

I've seen people put pieces of hose around them as padding. I've never tried it so I don't know how/if it works.

I think heat shrink or plastic dip would look cleaner. Just tossing a few more ideas out there.

LOL - not good ears, just REAL bad straps!

I hear that high pitched, strangling rabbit type squealch over my leaking headers, my cam, humming Baja Claws, rattling door panel captive nuts, loose window felts, vibrating torque convertor, flapping softtop and compensating stereo. Weird thing is that my rig seems louder since I put a top on it - it's a danged echo chamber now!

I was also thinking about the heat-shrink idea. I've seen the heater or garden hose trick, but usually for chain straps on step-sides. I may just try to find a tighter driver's side strap, cuz that one is real loose. I searched for posts all over and really found nothing on a cable upgrade, so I may have to forge my own path there.
