4l60E trans swap question

is there an advantage/disadvantage to using a 4l60E over a 700R4? would it be a direct swap?

Are you running F/I? You need the electronic controls to make the 4l60e to work. If you are running a carb just use a 700r4

Re: 4l60E trans swap question

i'm running an edelbrock 1405 carb on a 400 sb.
My transmission is whining like crazy and i'm afraid it is on its way out.
I am trying to figure out all of my options. anyone know what the average cost is for a shop to replace the pump in a 700r4 is?

Have it rebuilt & buy a converter.....DO NOT half a$$ a 700R4.
Have it done NOW....Dont wait for it to break.

The converter & front pump can make whining noises.

Re: 4l60E trans swap question

If your truck is a 4X4 it won't just "bolt in", not with out a lot of other changes. If your truck is a 2wd it would fit, but you would have to move the crossmember foreward, and you might have to change the driveline, depending on which 350 you have.

A 9" tail TH350 is a direct bolt-in, Just move the crossmember forward to accommodate the TH350 mount location.

Re: 4l60E trans swap question

i went to pick up a 350 trans listed on craigslist last night and it turned out to be a 700r4. it came out of an 89 chevy and is a gm rebuild. it was in a 2wd 350 truck. wish me luck.
