to locate correct timing mark

i have a rebuilt 350 short block cam installed with #1 piston up, install my timing chain cover & damper then find the correct tab to match damper mark. Did i miss a step? silly question but thats all i ask
Not a pro here dont want to miss a step id feel better with a comment ....ok to say yes your right silly it'll work........ thanks a bunch

If the cover & damper match & have the tab on the cover it should be right.

thats y im unsure its a new damper, bowtie timing cover, no pointer, im thinking its a silly ? but like i said i dont do this every day, thank you

So you don't have any timing tab? I know most aftermarket covers don't have a tab but there are ones that bolt on based on the diameter of the damper you are using.

If you get one of the bolt on style tabs, if you set your #1 to TDC, the tab should line up with the 0 mark.

What size damper do you have? I have some tabs for the small 6 in diameter one.

wrench its a 6 3/4" short block didnt come with one hope i got the right one
