Oil Filters Lines covered in Transmission Fluid

Guys on a 98 C1500 Suburban 5.7L Vortec 2WD why is my oil filter lines splashed in red transmission fluid at the front of the motor underneath the harmonic balancer?

Sorry for the newb question but only oil goes through these right?

Not a major leak, like covered but there is noticeable red fluid driblets.

Thanks.

Does your radiator have 2 lines on one side tank and 2 lines on the other side tank?

Are you running ATF in your power steering, and if so, is your power steering pump wet or dry?

What side of the engine do you see the lines with red fluid on? The drivers side or the passenger side?

The two lines come up from the oil filter to the radiator on the drivers side. Those have the redfluid on them. The metal line on the passenger side is dry.

No, don't think you looked close enough. There are 2 metal lines on the passenger side. Look down further. Why would there only be one line, can't make a loop with just one line.

Now, one side is oil and the other is trans fluid. Not sure which is which but remember trans fluid is red and more than likely, it's running down from the fitting at the radiator.

Re: Oil Filters Lines covered in Transmission Fluid

Ok I will check it out and report back after work. There are two lines that go to the transmission cooler, not the radiator, but those are not the lines that have red fluid on them.

The red is on the oil filter lines that run up to the radiator on the drivers side.

On the passenger side of my radiator I have one metal line up top and one hose off the bottom of course.

Re: Oil Filters Lines covered in Transmission Fluid

Never run your cooler lines through the radiator - this is the stupidest idea they ever came up with.

Go to Pick-n-Pull and get both a transmission fluid cooler and an engine oil cooler.
Also go to your nearest farm supply store and get the largest hydraulic fluid filter you can find and install it on the outflow line of the transmission. The increased fluid in the cooler and the filter will increase the volume of fluid being cooled and your engine plus transmission will thank you by never failing again.
