What to do with a rusted out K5

I have a 74 GMC Jimmy 4x4 it runs/drives good and is in good overall shape except it is just.... very very rusted (yes this can happen in California)

The firewall is completly rusted through, cowl, passenger side door jamb, windsheidl frame, etc... I enjoy driving it and like the truck but I don't want to invest too much $/time into it when I have a 68 Suburban 4x4 That I want to full redo.

tips to stop it from spreading more? Practice body work?

Just drive it and fix the little things and enjoy it till a door falls off?

I say save it! Think of all the good times you've had in that thing. Just save it little by little, so you don't feel like its some massive time sink. Just cut out one piece of cancer per year or something. Eventually there won't be any left.

What he said, or buy a parts truck and make a good one out of two. Start with a gas cap. Cool truck!

Someone stole the gas cap.... anyone got one?

I have it listed at a price that I would have no problem letting it go and would be nice to have that $ to put towards my burb!

For now I figure I drive it with the top off during the summer in California

save her. I just started fixin mine up - doing it a bit at a time around work, kids,. wife other hobbies. even 30 minutes sanding on a lunchtime or an hour with an angle grinder and a can of POR on a weekend makes a difference over the period of a few months.

I'm in the same boat, got a orange 74 jimmy 4x4 with a cancer problem, passanger floor flexes with wind from the highway and the cab mount fell threw on its self and sits on the frame. Suprizingly the woman's the one telling me to keep it, shows how cool these trucks are

Thing is it drives great so worst case I drive a rusty K5 around.. I work from home so have plenty of time to tinker here and there.

It is real rough... I'm not gonna worry about it too much, just drive her and fix little stuff see what that leads or if someone wants to give it a good home. cool!

Re: What to do with a rusted out K5

I would say find a pick up for parts and replace firewall and cowl area. rest of truck looks solid and blazers are getting hard to find

Re: What to do with a rusted out K5

A tin of POR and a tarp in the rain will ensure it never gets any worse. then its just a bit by bit job over the next 5 years.
