I don't think it's a bad idea.
Are you thinking of putting the clock hands on the hubcap?

Re: garage wall art?

I think just make the hub cap the clock with no numbers. Nix the wheel and tire.

Re: garage wall art?

That's a '66 hubcap. You wouldn't happen to have 4 more of them would you? I'll trade you a clock for them.

Re: garage wall art?

I'd sell that cap and buy a one with character (to go better with the wheel) for cheaper. I'm sure you could find a trade where the other person pays shipping. I don't think most people will get it with the raggedy tire. I'd leave it on for outside art, but to hang on the wall I'd lose the tire.

Clocks will never be useless. I have a clock on my flip phone, look at it many times a day. But, I am not attached to my phone. In the house it gets parked and I look at the clock on the kitchen wall or on the stove. I look at the alarm clock next to my bed first thing in the morning...and middle of night when I can't sleep. I look at the clock on my vehicle stereo all the time...except when I'm looking where I'm going. I always look at bank clocks. And I care about time less than most people.

Now, if someone said a wrist watch is useless now that we have mobile phones I'd have to agree. I never wore one before cell phones because I never wanted to be so tied to time. And, when I did try to wear one I would break it using my hands to do work (same reason I don't always carry my phone).
