Blazer or jimmy chalet

I was wondering if any one out there in the land of this forum has ever seen one of these. Got pics?? Apperantly you took the top off your blazer/jimmy and it was a camper that went on to the body. I think it was also made by GM. Once camping season was over simply convert back to a blazer. Is there truth to this or have I been sold a bum steer.

I've seen them for 2nd generation Blazers. I don't know if there were any for 1st generation Blazers. I think they came out after the Blazer lost the full removable top.

I found this when looking them up as for history

It's a full-size Chevy Blazer that came from the dealer with a pop-up camper on it. (A small number were also made with GMC badges as Jimmy Casa Grandes.) Less than 1800 units were made between spring 1976 and very early 1977, and were sold through Chevy/GMC dealerships. The Blazer came off the same production line as a regular truck, and had a pop-up camper shell installed by Chinook Mobilodge in Washington. same company that built the Toyota Chinooks

Re: Blazer or jimmy chalet

The chalet part was not removable, I mean not intended on being removed. There are pop ups that bolted down on first gen and 73-75 (maybe more). They are rare and were made by 4 wheel campers. There are threads on here

I felt sure if anyone had pics and info on the Chalets Tim would have it.
I think I've only seen one in my life.

They talk about them in the 73-87 Blazer/Jimmy forum. We have members with them.

Don't know how I managed to miss this thread before. I've seen only one 'out in the wild' and all the others I've seen, including my own former Chalet #1747, are ones I purposely went to see from finding info on where they were. See my sig below for both the old BlazerChalet web site that I currently am the caretaker of (basically keeping it online, I've only added a couple of updates to otherwise 20 year-old content), and for our Chalet owners' & enthusiasts' forum. I'm the #2 moderator there, our man here 1976K5CHALET owns that one. I try to maintain a sellers list there for members (it's free to join) for all the Chalets and Casa Grandes that can be found, but I am running behind once again on updating it. The list corresponds to this map I created. Hard to say exactly how many complete rigs and orphaned camper units are for sale, since getting status info from sellers is like herding cats.

These were not intended to be removable (the front cabover portion is not really self-supporting, and the taillights wiring was permanently spliced into the truck wiring as opposed to being disconnectable), and they were a joint venture between GM and Chinook, the same company that put similar shaped popup campers on Toyotas and Datsuns back in the '70s.

Re: Blazer or jimmy chalet

My neighbor had one back in the 80's. It's only one I've ever seen.

Re: Blazer or jimmy chalet

One popped up on here the other day for sale.

It might have been in the "show us Your CL finds" thread.

Re: Blazer or jimmy chalet

I saw two at the Iola Old Car Show and Swap Meet last July. Both trucks were average shape for the year and being in the Upper Midwest but it looked like they were still being used as campers.
