1962 Chevy K20 4X4 LB FS 3/4 Ton

Just bought this 1962 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 long bed, this truck has a SBC 350 installed using the front motor mount only. Has anyone set this truck up with using the side motor mounts that are on the SBC 350's? Looking for advice.

why do you want the side motor mounts. as long as you are using the orig b/housing mounting, you will have no problem with it. if you are going to an a/trans then you will have to change it then

In the past I have used a '67-'72 K series engine mount crossmember in a '60-'66 K10. You just have to drill the bolt holes. Not long ago someone told me that they used a '73-'87 K series engine mount crossmember in a '60-'66 K20 without modification. If that is true, it is possible that the '60-'66 K20 frames are taller? I do know that the '73-'87 K series crossmember will not fit a '60-'66 K10 frame without modification.

there is no link as it is a friend of mine and he doesn't do any forums. these were some pictures that I got from him. there are a few more pics around. some are in Jon's 4 x 4 suburban conversion and there was a thread that I started here that I will see if I can find. he even cut the frt axle housing down and installed shorter axles so that it would retain orig width. the axles were an over the counter purchase through Dana.

The Motor has one mount in the front, the old horse collar that goes around the timing chain cover and two on the Transmission which is an original Granny four speed. Im going to use the 350 side mounts just have to get them welded to the frame, I will send pics when done.

Anyone know where I can find a 62 Chevy grill, Im also looking for another bed, long that is not as in bad a shape as mine. Ive got a GMC tail gate and also need a Chevy tail gate

so with what you have is quite adequate. you have a good 3 point mounting. as I had asked before, why do you feel that you have to change it?

I do remember those pics Ron, I had just forgot about the '73+ engine mount. So that engine mount was installed without modifications? I guess maybe I had better clean off my tape measure. I do prefer the '73 and up engine mounts over the earlier design.

he has the complete crossmember in there inc for the sway bar. he also used the springs and mounting of them with it. I will check with him to see if he altered any of it at all

Because the new motor im putting in is a 440 HP 350SBC and I don't trust the front motor mount, its cracked, and I cant find a new one anywhere

It is the 2 mounts on the bellhousing that will actually take the thrust from the torque. that frt mount is actually the same as a rear trans mount if the eng was side mounted
this fellow in the following link will have a set of the right 4 x 4 perches for a 63-66 4 x 4 for a sbc as he has gotten the right set for a 292. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=635291
another set-up that one can use is out of a 67-72 4 x 4 which is what I bolted into my 64

there is also different frame heights between the years 60-62 are not as high as the 63 & up; in this link

you will have to use a spacer on top of the frame to use the later mounts. the alturnative is to fabricate your side mounts. bolt any of them in instead of welding them in,
believe that there was also someone on this board recently that said that they had 2 of those orig horseshoe mounts

Ron, That is true with the C series truck frames, but I believe the K series frames are the same height from '60-'72. That is why I suggested the '67-'72 K series engine mount crossmember.

In consideration of that fact, I would go with the '73-'87 K series engine mounts and crossmember, even if it needs to be modified to fit your frame. Those engine mounts are far better than the '63-'72 mounts. Are you keeping the SM420 trans and T221 transfer case, or are you upgrading?
