Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

Frame's almost done, adding one more cross member up front to arc over the drive shaft. Slides right in to the existing frame. Also caged the front end, it's been a busy winter...

I really like the way you did the backhalf. How does it attach to the existing frame in front?

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

Thanks! It's bolted in every 5 inches, spanning about 2 feet into the original frame, sits right behind the original cross member the driveshaft goes through. The goal was to make a new frame around the suspension, without messing with anything else.

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

looking good! post some more!
I have some questions for you....

did you end up leaving the bag on the trailing arms or did you move it to the axle? also with the panhard bar and the trailing arms, do you get a lot of side to side movement? and what are you running for the front end? I really like the budget build like this, and this is exactly the direction I would like to go with on my 69.

thanks bud!

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

Thanks!

Yea the bags are in the stock location on the trailing arms. The track bar from ECE is long, so the rear end doesn't shift side to side much, maybe 1/2 inch at most while driving.
The front end has Choppin' Block upper and lower control arms and 2.5 inch drop spindles. Although I'm not much of a fan of these arms, they didn't work out the bugs fully before they put them on the market. The web for the bag is set too low to the ground for drop spindles, among other things. I plan on reworking them and weld 'em up right for my setup.

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

Made another big change, new wheels.
In order to get the rear wheels off, the skirts had to go. I was ready for a whole new look, and found the perfect rim and tire combo. 275/60R15 Cooper Cobras on 10 inch deep dish chrome reverse, no center caps.
Now I really got my body work cut out for me!
I'm going to replicate the stock flares around the tires, and give it a new paint job, black pearl.

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

Not the skirts!!! They made your truck instantly recognizable and they looked so right too. But I also see wanting a change. I kinda dig the new look actually with the rough cut opening. Makes it look like an old circle track car (truck). How do you plan on cleaning that up? Are you going to put in a new piece to go back to completely stock, or do another custom opening to fit that wheel/tire combo?

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

Haha, thanks, I know. The skirts were one of a kind and looked good, but they were no longer functional. They had a good run, for 10 years or so lol I'm going to do some body work and make a lip to go around the tire, probably keep it as close to stock looking as I can, just higher up.

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

Yo dude I like the new look a lot ! Really looks like a beast now ! When I go to change things up I'm gonna go smaller (17" to 15") rim .. more rubber . Atleast in the rear . Compliments the muscle era our trucks are from.

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

Thanks man! Yea keep it looking old school! The deep chrome wheels and wide tires were a popular mod back in the 60s & 70s, and a black paint job is gonna look killer. I want to do a black pearl with the same metallic sheen as the blue. It's actually going to look reminiscent of "The Car" an old movie car I fell in love with when I was a kid.

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

The Guild . Tv show restoration garage is building a replica "the car" for a customer ... Guy had like a 100k into it and it still wasn't done

When I was looking for a truck first one I fell in "love" w was a 69 with a 496 ... And it looked just like yours how it sits now . I missed out on it . Went quick before I could make the phone call . But that opened my eyes to the 67-72 Chevys .

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

My rears are 17x12 but the tires are 35 series .. Not much rubber . I'll end up changing up later ... They work for now so m focusing on other things first .... This is how it sits now .. Not bad . But I want that more muscle look.

Re: Heavy frame work, slamming the Beast...

^^ Thanks, same. I was into the rat rod look for awhile, still am, but this truck deserves to look a little more intense.

Mollzyie, that's bad ass! I like the olive drab. I see what you mean, an older looking set of wheels would really set it off. I googled the guild car replica but couldn't find it, definitely have to start watching that.
