Re: Ian's Tennessee Honey '64 Short Box Step-side - England

the funny thing about Covid, it's really messed up my sense of time, it seems like 6 months since I last posted anything but it's actually 16.

Anyway, I have been making steady progress so here are a couple of pictures.

Great color. Weren't you putting the fuel fill on the right side previously?

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments,

Rocknrod - did move my filler to the right side, it ended up in the rear fender.

I've been laid up for a few details, self-isolating before a minor surgical procedure. So I took the opportunity to start my inner door panels.

I sanded both to remove to loose paint and provide a sound surface for the vinyl

applied the vinyl using contact adhesive

Very, very nice.
I've not seen that done before.
Great idea for these truck door panels.

The door panels look rather good Ian.

Nice work and here's hoping that everything goes well for the procedure.

Thanks everyone, the procedure went well and thankfully it was nothing too nasty.

I was going to post some pictures of my lastest 'project' but realised i hadn't posted pictures of the bed (which was the reason for the project). so here are a couple of pictures of the bed

Re: Ian's Tennessee Honey '64 Short Box Step-side - England

Living in Northern England one disadvantage of a pick-up is the weather, we get more cold and wet days than we do dry and sunny ones (don't believe everything you see on Downton Abbey ).

I'm a fan of the tri-fold type that you often see on modern trucks as they look traditional but are practical too. I looked but I couldn't find anyone who makes one to fit a classic truck. I measured up a few that were available for the Japanese trucks which are common in the UK but they were all the wrong size the nearest was a Nissan Navara which was still too short and too wide.

Like all good hotrodders, what you can't buy you have to make. While looking I had a real stroke of luck, the retail per cover is around £350 ($425) and I knew I'd need two. I was talking to a retailer one day and when I explained what I was doing he said he had a couple of covers where the packaging had been water damaged in transit, he couldn't sell them retail and the insurance had paid him out so he could sell me them really cheap. I bought three sold one and the remaining two owed me £39 (yes $47)

Name: tri-fold.jpg
Views: 269
Size: 60.7 KB

I stripped the covers off both frames and then built one from two, it had to be stretched 6" and narrowed by 5".

Name: tri-fold frame.jpg
Views: 274
Size: 54.8 KB

Refitting the cover was a bit of a head scratcher but with a combination of glue, staples and double sided tape I got it back together OK .

Re: Ian's Tennessee Honey '64 Short Box Step-side - England

That cover is lovely.

My S10 has one, but they stopped making them.

I would even buy a good, used one if I could find one to fit the truck.

Right now it is between being a liability and a good thing, held on at the cab side with cable ties a previous owner deemed good for fighting cold weather shrinking.

If only they had not stopped making them…….

Very nice job Ian.
Haven't checked out your build in a while. Everything you're doing is well done and innovative. I really like the gas filler and door panels ideas. The bed cover looks good and the Tennessee Honey logos on the doors look great.

Keep up the good work and try to stay from those doctors.

Shame to see it up for sale Ian, and that's a very very fair price - I'll definitely be waiting until this is sold before I advertise mine!

Enjoyed this thread from start to finish.

Good luck with the sale.
