"If I could have any truck..." Confessions Of A Chevy Guy
Not me, you! Let's hear it. I mean yeah me too and all that. But this thread is here for anyone so moved to confess their non-GM truck yurnings. It's not a big deal, we won't judge. Let's all be friends no matter what, ok?
I was looking at pictures from a local antique truck club show I attend and this Studebaker is just amazing. It would be so cool to have one just like that. It is so custom cool it isn't funny and it is bone stock. I will admit right here and now, I have always thought Studebaker trucks were just too darn cool. Any one of them. I landed on Chevy/GMC out of practical use needs. When it comes to old, I like 'em all!

'40 ('39) Ford pickups have always been a favorite. In fact, the coupes and the sedans, too. Lemme see...
... Huh, that's all I have on file.

Re: "If I could have any truck..." Confessions Of A Chevy Guy
This...a 1938 International D2. My grandfather had one and it was given to me to drive after his passing. Drove it for my last 2 years of high school. My uncle took it and quickly sold it after I left for the Air Force.
Flat head 6, 3 on the floor, 36MPH top speed, but could take 2 tons of firewood and drive like there was no load. Loved the toe button start and the windshield that hinged out for cool air while driving.

To me, they're the "perfect" vehicle to come out of the 30's/40's. Those fat fenders, the wide low stance, the sculpted rear fenders. They're literally a work of art.

Actually that stubaker front came out before Lincolns. The Studebaker is a coup express.

I wish I had one favorite above all others, it would solve a lot of my ridiculous hording problems. I'm not even putting a smiley face on this.

Re: "If I could have any truck..." Confessions Of A Chevy Guy
My question isn't limiting to one. It's perfectly normal to want more than one, or own more than one. I don't think you hoard. It's a normal classic vehicle thing to gather, especially for those who don't buy turn-key. That's why there are swap meets.
I'm a fool for any early 4wd. They started getting modern in the late '60s-early '70s era. I've been stuck on K/20s (and K2500s) most of my life. I have had several at one time. Just have the K2500 now. And what I've always wanted was a collection of 3/4t 4wds from the big 4, one each... Dodge Ford, IH, GMC, and Chevy.

I REALLY like the new Ford Raptors. like, more than any other truck I have ever had. If I had the scratch I would definitely get one.

Re: "If I could have any truck..." Confessions Of A Chevy Guy
I wouldn't trade my Blazer for one, but I'd park a 1st gen Bronco next to it.
Maybe then people would understand the Blazer's not a Bronco. Then again, probably not...

Re: "If I could have any truck..." Confessions Of A Chevy Guy
Probably not. One of my sons had a '70 Dodge Dart. A person asked him one time if it was an Impala, because they had one back when they were young. Beside the fact that the Impala is about a yard longer, I guess they do kind of look the same.

Now a first gen blazer and bronco, no way, the blazer is HUGE next to one and they look nothing a like. A (stock) bronco basically has rear fender skirts.

I would love to see the J10/20 come back. They were really nice trucks.....but then quadra trac came and killed them and the Wagoneer.

Re: "If I could have any truck..." Confessions Of A Chevy Guy
I’m a GM guy for life, but once I had the ones I wanted I branched off to other makes that I alway appreciated but have only been able to admit I liked in the last 10 years or so. I’m 46 so I grew up with 70’s and 80’s vintage trucks.
My current non-GM old truck collection (all 4wd): ‘74 Bronco ‘77 F150 swb ‘76 IH Scout ‘85 Toyota Reg cab swb ‘87 Dodge W150 ‘86 Jeep CJ7 If someone would have told me 20 years would be owning a Toyota anything I would have said they were crazy. I must say after being so engulfed in GM all of my life working on other makes makes me appreciate GM, but sometimes I feel like other makes had a better design. Here’s a pic from last weekend when I had the swb trucks from the big three at the dunes. |

I'm with you on the Toyota. I was commuting long distance (47 miles one way) for my job, and bought a Corolla for the mileage (and the AC). I had a '68 Skylark that got ~18 MPG in mixed traffic driving, but the Corolla paid for itself in 7 years, in what I saved on gasoline alone. Our family was GM forever. Most of my siblings and my dad (and I) worked for GM in the Van Nuys plant. My dad is probably spinning 6000 RPM in his grave after several of us bought Toyotas.
