I'm liking the idea of rhino lining or using line x on the individual boards and the rest of the bed with the stainless strips

Wow, there are some really nice beds and some very unique ideas on this thread. Here is mine. No mounting bolts showing or bolts in the strips. Also no gas filler, just simple and clean. Tailgate opens sideways also.

is there a trick to getting the bed square? Seems like when I adjust one spot it throws off something else.

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

The metal bed was welded over wood at some point on mine. Its going to have lots of different dirty jobs to do and I'm keeping it that way for now. I used the electrical cord for a gas guage until I can figure out the problem with it.
Waiting for the engine repairs, rebuild……..waiting..

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

I was going to redo the bed and put in some good wood and stainless strips but my wife talked me out of it (for now).

She told I needed to do something different and suggested I put down a similar material that I have on the garage floor (Ribtrax from Swistrax). This would allow me to haul around stuff without worrying about scratching the woods.

So, I thought about it and decided to let her buy me a father's day present. I spent one morning cutting these DiamondTrax tiles in and it turned out looking pretty nice! I have extra black tiles to swap in to go all black if I want. She also thought I needed to some color in there (again, she was paying).

These tiles lay very flat and the way they snap together I really don't think they will fly out. They haven't yet. If they act like they are going to I'll use something to hold it down.

The only thing you have to watch is to leave about a 1/4 inch around the outer edges. In direct sunlight these tiles will expand about 1/2 inch. I've had to go back and trim a couple pieces that caused a section to buckle a little bit.

JSDOYLE

Man that looks sharp
Any issue with trapping moisture between the tiles and wood?

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

I don't take it out in the rain.

It's not a solid surface on the back side so that would help. If I got it wet I think I would likely pull it out, let it dry and put it back. Very easy to do so.

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

Before photos when I first built the truck, and after photos with my new wheel tubs and empty bed. I will probably go with a smooth polished aluminium bed with wood slats, currently doing mock up work, will post new update photos in a few months.

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

for the patina crowd... I bought the original wood from a long bed that had the normal dryrot at the ends but since it needed to be cut down to fit my SB I ended up with a near perfect original bed. I'm going to treat with motor oil/diesel fuel combo....
