1964 Sleeper | 5.3 | 75mm turbo | Caged | 4 Link

After my dad and I finished our first project, a 76' step side I decided I wanted to do a build of my own. We built the 76' when I was 15-16 and I learned a ton building it, now 17 I want to take on my own project. I bought the 64' for $100, a deal I couldn't refuse. The cab was fully rusted out, but I'm up for the challenge. I had a hard time deciding which direction to go with the build, but I eventually decided building a nasty sleeper was the best option. I picked up an iron block 5.3 and a borgwarner s475 turbo. This combo should be good for 650-700rwhp. The 5.3 will remain stock except for a cam, springs, head gaskets, and head studs and the full stainless turbo system ill be building. Going to run a th400 and a 12bolt out of 2006 silverado, as well as a roll cage and 4 link/coilover rear suspension. All the welding and fabrication will be done by me.

The 76'

Now for the 64, heres what I started with.

It was pretty rusty so I started with the rockers and cab corners

And the fun bits, the 5.3..

And the hefty 75mm turbo. I built a bracket out of some left over 4130 cromo to support all 50lbs of turbo.

To get a break from rust repair, I started on the frame. I shortened it 8" in front of the wheel and 5" after to make it a medium length bed, which I think will suit the style of build I'm going for.

Next on the list was the rear suspension, Im currently fabricating a full custom 4 link. Should be finished up by the end of the weekend.

Blank canvas..

Mad skills for a 17 year old.

I love anything LS and turbo. I'm in and will probably steal ideas....

Jesse, cool looking build for the 64, boosted LS should be real nice!!! Do you have a build thread for the 76, I would love to see that one. That truck has the SLEEPER look to me. Good luck and I'll be checking in.

Thanks everyone! Lots of hours on the tig are finally starting to pay off. Got the rest of the 4 link components cut out today. Takes a while to cut the 1/4" with only a band saw but I think they turned out pretty good.

Agreed !!

You are very talented, and possibly also have an eye for detail......plus finish.

Looked shop bought, but now I am even more impressed.

I will be here every day, waiting for a fix.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Awesone build. I'm very interested to see how this one comes together. Beautiful welds what kinda of Tig are you using? Swing those welds reminds me I need to get my Tig back up and running.

Just using a Diversion 165. Its been an awesome machine for learning, but now at times I wish it had some more adjustability.
