Re: seat kit

I don't think any 60-66's had foam in the seat. Cotton batting and burlap. Available from Hobby Lobby or any material outlet. Foam would have to be cut to shape. No one makes pre cut foam for a 60-66 seat that I know of. I've had auto upholstery shops rebuild seats using foam instead of the original cotton batting, it wasn't cheap.

Depends upon the seat you have, here is a link on the discussion: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=7757191

Re: seat kit

No foam in the 60-66 chevy truck seats! That was a sarcastic remark, I hope. I can't imagine sitting on 4 or 5" or more of cotton batting. That's called a sofa. So the old saying goes. Living room furniture you sit in. Automotive seats you sit on.

Re: seat kit

There was no foam in 60-66 standard seats. And that’s not sarcasm, that’s fact.

Re: seat kit

The standard seats in my burb were long springs, burlap, cotton batting, cover. Same on my utility buckets. A few broken springs really collapses the seat when you sit on it

A full foam seat was an option in the custom equipment or by itself.

Re: seat kit

I wonder if all the foam in my seats just disintegrated. Just checked my 66 and no foam surviving in there either. The brochure showing the 63 standard seat looks closest to what remains (minus the foam).

Re: seat kit

You only got the foam if you got the Custom Comfort option seat.

Re: seat kit

I have been a trimmer for the last 25 years. I have worked on anything from a 1938 Aston Martin to Chevy trucks in the early 70's. And many in between. Tons of vintage cars. With very few exceptions have I ever seen seats without foam under the top covering. Those exceptions where lightweight Italian race cars. In those few cases the manufacturer chose a Pirelli rubber webbing, and only for weight factor. Manufacturers have been using foam pads of some type since the 20's. Please listen to those that are trying to help others by sharing their knowledge. I know this discussion has hijacked the original intent of this thread, but I see so many people that are very uneducated when in comes to automotive interiors. In the case of our 60-66 trucks, there is a reason that the comfort seat is listed as full foam. This is a hint that the other style is still a foam seat just not FULL foam. The standard seat has arched springs and a foam pad of about 2.5" in depth. The so called full foam seat is just that. A full 9'' of foam pad over straight springs. Also, The foam pads that automotive manufacturers use give the seat its shape and comfort. The post that was posted previously here, of the seat cross section from the official GM book says it all.

Re: seat kit

In this sites Factory Restoration thread on pages #2 and #15 there is information on original seats. If your seat has no foam . . .

Re: seat kit

I was looking over the restoration packet and came across this info. Looks like the foam is only 3/4 in thick for the back rest and extra cotton for the Z62 Custom Comfort option. No full foam option for the burb?

Re: seat kit

Looks like only the panel (1405) could get a full foam seat
