1972 Chevy C20 Longhorn "Factory Dually"

Guys, I saw this on ebay and it is a super nice truck, but it looks fishy to me. I've never seen a factory built dually Longhorn. It could be real, but this thing is too nice to be virgin untouched. I'm thinking parts of this truck have been repainted, mainly the outside and the inside of the bed. The engine looks too nice and has painted exhaust manifolds and doesn't look original. My biggest thing that make the truck appear not OE to me are the wheel tub extensions. I'd think they'd match the OE's by having the crease in them. Maybe this was a conversion truck? What do you guys think? It is still a very nice truck.

Check out the cargo lamp. It looks too far to the left to me.

Re: 1972 Chevy C20 Longhorn "Factory Dually"

I posted this truck on the board probably about 8 monthes ago...it has been on EBAY countless times since then. Its not an original dual wheel longhorn...none were ever built that I have seen any evidence of. If you notice nowhere on the SPID does it mention "Dual wheel Conv", even 133" 1 ton C&C trucks that are dual wheel will have this listed on the SPID. If the factory were to have built one I would think they would have started with a C/30 Longhorn and added the "Dual Wheel Conversion"...but like I said I dont believe any were ever built. It is a nice truck though..just not what the saleman is stating!

Re: 1972 Chevy C20 Longhorn "Factory Dually"

Been for sale for a long long time. SPID does not show the dually conversion. Shows many signs of a restoration. Is it claimed to be a restoration or original paint etc.? Either way it is beautiful.

Blazerman proved he's a much faster typer than me.

Very good looking truck, but not factory. They did a very good job of making it a dually

Seems like they spent alot of money on it, but then decided painting the grille surround silver was a good idea???

. . . .

Here are a few SPIDS from some dual rear wheel trucks:

1. 68 C-30 ( notice that the option numbers aren't in alphabetical order, like most are )

2. 71 Wrecker

3. 72 with a camper shell

. . . .

The wood bed in the truck is in phenomenal condition, and would have came wih this series truck, but it shows so well, I cannot believe it is original.
I believe that's because it's not original... all original wood beds were painted body color.

It looks like a nicely restored truck to me. I can't imagine a LONGHORN being bought back in the day "when a truck was a truck" and it was never used as a truck?

I also don't see any chalk numbers on the firewall.

It's a little fuzzy, but I also remember something about a lot of overspray being on the underside of original hoods (body color on the black.)

Even if you remove the "low miles unrestored" thing, that's easily a 20K truck. I'd love to have it.

I love this truck.

Color is awesome.

I could see me towing with this.

He is just a little mis-informed. But what the heck.

It is sweet.

Isn't this color called Grape Whine or something like that? It is a really nice color and you don't see it very often.

I'm the other way. I think these look the best IMO. Almost tucked in there and it looks mean!

Re: 1972 Chevy C20 Longhorn "Factory Dually"

this is totally a doable build, find a later 74ish up 1ton running gear, if memory serves me well 1tons had the same type front suspension setup as the 2wd trucks, or just use a 1ton chassis and drop the body on it. anyway you slice it, it is cool.

I'd just use the Longhorn chassis because then you don't have to cut and lengthen it.
