need some help with lowering GMC

I have a 1965 GMC stepside, I want to lower it so for the rear I got 4" lowering blocks and I removed the two bottom spring leafs. Now the truck sits higher than it did before I did all of this. I have installed lowering blocks on several cars and it always lowered them. I have the shocks loose so I know they aren't holding it up, what do you guys think the problem is ?

Re: need some help with lowering GMC

Well, my '65 GMC has the springs over the axle. So I would think 4" blocks would raise the vehicle, but then removing 2 springs lowered it back down some

Re: need some help with lowering GMC

My springs are under the axle, so I guess I should have thought of a flip kit like is done on a square body truck. Oh well I guess I will take them out and see how it sits with the spring leafs removed. Damn sure was a lot of work to get this result. The truck has been sitting for about 6yrs so everything was nice and rusted!

Re: need some help with lowering GMC

I removed 4 of the springs from my leaf sets. I'll bet it's at least a 2-3" drop once the weight is back on the frame

Re: need some help with lowering GMC

Don't forget to get shorter bolts for the spring pack. The U-Bolts should have enough thread

Re: need some help with lowering GMC

I can't add anything to the lowering question, but I have one for drmatera.

Your rear bumper brackets, do they have two bolts holding them to the frame rail?

I tried to install my bumper brackets yesterday, and was unable to get two holes into the frame rail.

Could you post some close up pics of very end of your frame rails, and the brackets.

Thanks

Ken
