Talking my new bumpers

sorry guys I just have to show off the 2 new bumpers I designed for my offroader, the rear is 11" tall in the center which is only 3" below the frame of the truck when adjusted for the 3" body lift and looks way bulker in the pics than in person and the front is 12" tall and the bottom 7ga plate laps tight along the bottom of the fraim rail up front ,
rear compleated and installed

Front, I'm having a little Designers block on my brush guard but once I have it done then this bumper will also be powder coated black as well but here's what I have so far

and here's the existing front that I built 5 years ago that is also 12" tall and laps the same as the new one will when mounted

also the "mud flap" that you see hanging down from the existing bumper will be re-installed since it helps keep the goo outa my engine bay

Re: my new bumpers

Ya those guys on Pirate are gods gift to fabricators with their overweight overengineered rigs.... They use railroad ties for frames and rockwell axles. They weigh 150 tons but hey, they wont break. Your bumpers look fine. (See Diy4x.com)

yeah I knotaced that, I try to design and build a bumper that will take a heck of a hit and laugh while not weighing 10 tons myself, and the rear bumper has caught enugh peoples attention around Waterloo in the 3 weeks since I finished it cause I just finished one identicle to it except with d-rings instead of tabs that is heading to powder this afternoon, thanks for the complement I come up with my own designs and my style ain't everybodys cup of tea but I don't like to copy anybody else if I can help it.

on another note does anybody have any ideas on torture testing bumpers? I'v asked this on a couple other sites with mixed reactions, I just want to know if I make a bumper and send it some place that doesn't have the same wheeling conditions as I usually incounter that the bumper will hold up? As you can see my truck isn't exactally a rock crawler, I mud, trail run, and truck pull with it, I have sold quite a few to local boys that wheel with the rigs that they are installed on and they give me reviews of the performance on their bumpers along with the abuse I deal to my own vehicles (I love breaking new trails and taking out up to 6"dia trees with my truck) but I can't with good concious send a bumper to say southern Cali. for example because I haven't incountered those specific wheeling conditions? any ideas would help.

Re: my new bumpers

Only two real ways I can think of. either those fancy design software programs, or to build a bumper, and using a force gauge, destroy it, then do a second test against a stock bumper...

thanks, it's getting there, need a little more lift for the 44's is all, and some cutout flares since I went a little heavy on the sawing up front

Re: my new bumpers

I made a front bumper the other day for the 83. I used 5 pieces of 1/8" by 4" plate. I made a light rack about 8 inches up that goes across the radiator out of 1" square supported by 1/8 by 1. It hinges forward in case I want to work on the grill or something. Locks in place with a hitch pin. I actually think it would take a pretty good hit from a medium sized deer. I added 4 driving lights and 2" round LED signals to it. I may build a couple more supports in the middle later. I picked up a used 87 grill and bezels from a guy tonight also. Yay. I just made an aluminum grill yesterday out of expanded metal. Its for sale

Re: my new bumpers

TEX here ya GO ! I gotta fix that right side later. Braces are on top the frame (1.5x1.5 I think) and below the frame and stock outside braces with tubing spacers.

Re: my new bumpers

here they are after a summer of abuse, they are holding up quite beautifully no matter what I did to them, just wish I would have had the rear bumper powder coated like I usually have all my bumpers done, the paint on it leaves something to be desired
