Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

I picked up a NOS dash bezel with the stainless trim over the weekend and was wondering what years they used the more gold colored than silver brushed insert. I never knew there were different ones. I have had the horn buttons that were more gold but never seen a dash bezel that way

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

It would be great to know. I wonder if it was the last of the 86-87 trucks. It seems like that era horn button had the Horn symbol as well

Pretty unique. I may have seen them.used and they might have been faded enough that I didn't notice

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

The back of it is marked 1988 version. Wonder if this was a one year thing.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

I worked in the gm plant that made the bezels until 1979, and up to that time all of the bezel decals were all brushed aluminum made by a company called Northern Engraving. I saw no gold when I was working there, and I was the one who issued the bezels to the assembly line.

I don't remember any gold ones, either, but I didn't start working until 1979 (so I don't have as many data points as I would for 1980 and beyond).

I don't recall any gold ones for 1988 and above, either.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

To my knowledge, GM started making these well after the trucks were out of production. Was a manufacturing change in the production of the parts probably 15-ish years ago, so the part you have is quite possibly NOS, just made after the trucks were out of production and this change in parts production was made. Just my .02

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

It is weird s there seem to be a lot of gold tone parts out there. This bezel, the horn buttons and what I thought was really strange is I saw a NOS Silverado dash emblem in gold tone sell for $200 last night

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

The AC and non/AC NOS Silverado cluster bezels I sold on this board over 2 years ago both had a 1988 manufacturing date on the backs iirc. The description was “honey burl” aluminum overlay. I presume these were issues for the 1988 CC and K5 trucks since they kept the body style until 1991. In 1989 Suburbans got the woodgrain trim but the K5s kept the honey burl applique.

That would make sense. This one didn't have a box as it was a display item atone of the truck parts places in CA. I need to see what color my other NOS bezel is

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

I am not sure about NOS, but some GM dealers have offered aftermarket "upgrades" of gold emblems as a way to increase revenue. They would call it a "package" with the word gold somewhere in the title. Think Cadillacs you see with gold emblems. Maybe this was an aftermarket producer, like the aftermarket producer that LMC now buys their bezels from.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

My dad purchased a new 1986 1/2 ton 4x4 Silverado and it had a goldish tint on it. When I was building my 82 and went to the dealer to purchase a new dash bezel in 1994 I had to specify whether it was gold or not. Also on the 82's the inner part of the gauge rings were chrome and I can't seem to find that on any aftermarket bezel now a days. I have a NOS bezel for a 91 Crew Cab in the box. I will look to see if it is gold or not and see the part#.

Got mine from LMC. They have the brushed satin billet overlay. I had it to installed, but I liked it this way better.

I'll look and see what I find. The 82 has the square cutout on the bottom left for the wiper switch. Someone broke into my truck to get the stereo and broke a perfectly good NOS dash bezel.

I have this same cluster bezel. It was a NOS part from about 20 years ago when I started my truck.

It doesn't have any gold'ish tint to it imo.

The ones they are talking about do, I have seen them too. I had a horn button, it was the gold colored also. It wasn't in my truck, I just happened to find one.

Here is the gold tinted one. It is hard to tell the color in the picture. I played with photo editing and still really couldn't get it to show up.
