Towing Mirrors

I'm looking to see some good towing mirrors for my 69 Suburban. I tow a 26' travel trailer and I'd like to see what others are using for towing. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I was thinking about a set like these.

How about a set of these? No extra holes and can be removed when not in use. They mount on the front fender and the lower arm clamps to the wheel well. My grandfather had a set he used on his Blazer back in the day.

I've thought about those. Id like to know of some personal experience with them. Seems like they might vibrate real bad.

Im liking these as well but with heated mirror heads.

Those look close to the original camper mirrors I have on my 71 Blazer. They vibrate quite a bit as well.

Not sure if you can see them great on the SWB but I like the D29 Below Eyeline Mirrors. They aren't ultra big like the camper mirrors and don't vibrate too bad. I have set on my SWB and Burb. No issues with visibility when pulling trailers.

I had some small sport mirrors attached after the last paint job but I quickly went back to these originals. My friend (previous owner) also attached one of those round convex mirrors to the top "arm" to lessen the blindspot. One more advantage, on a windows open day I enjoy the hand rest on the bottom arm which gives a nice breeze up the sleeve!

The down side of this style is that the farther your eyes are from the mirror the narrower your field of view in the mirror is. It's a geometry thing.

I never thought about that. Good observation.

I run a similar setup when towing but my universal mirrors clip to the door. Top clip has a sheetmetal clip which hooks over the top lip of the door, by window sash, and the bottom clip hooks over the bottom edge of the door. They are a universal design that was popular back in the 70's and 80's. They are ugly as sin but work quite well. As soon as I get to the campground and back in, they get removed. They stick out a mile and surprisingly enough vibrate very little.

I had larger aftermarket mirrors on my Burb when I bought it and didnt like the look. So I went back to OEM. The other problem I had with the larger mirrors was having enough room in the garage to walk around it. Its a tight fit parked next to the wifes mini van in the garage even with the smaller mirrors.

Are those Grote mirrors?

I had the Grote on my Suburban because I already had the 3 holes from previous owner and they fit pretty well, but they vibrated so bad on the highway (probably over 45 mph) they were un-usable. I'd look for some true West Coast style ones

Yes the tripods I posted pics of are Grote but the heated heads are not. I dont think I would want a true west coast. I drive truck for a living and, while I love them on my truck, I think they are to big for the burban. Maybe a west coast jr.

The Jrs may be better since they attach to the top of the frame of the door. What make are those? They may not be tall enough for the window though, just double check the measurements before you buy something not intended for our vehicles

I'm not sure who makes them. They are adjustable for length and height. The 90* bend is long on both ends and slides in or out on both the mirror and the mounting arm. Good points though! I am still undecided. I have an opportunity to get a OE set of brackets for the tripod type from a fellow forum member. I've just been so busy I haven't had time to go look at them.

The type pictured in your first post, I have something very similar on my 'Burb - I don't consider them big enough to be really useful for towing. A taller mirror would be better. Mine came with the RV Jr. mirrors from the factory and I plan to go back that way when I can find/afford a set of originals.

The problem I've encountered on these is that they don't stick out far enough to see around the RV trailer I would be pulling.
