Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

Do a search for shortening the steering column, one post had where you could collapse the shaft and move the column about 4" closer to the dash.

Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

Use a small diameter flat steering wheel on a shortened tilt steering column. Wear dark color T-shirts so the dirty place on your belly doesn't show..
I weigh almost that much but 4" shorter.

Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

This kinda interests me. There have been a few times that I wished I had more room, usually in the winter. Is there a thread out there where someone shows the steps?

Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

^^^^^^^^Took a bit for me to notice the mod there.

That looks really cool, but the same result could be had modifying the seat(s) with a lot less effort and no metal work.

For the OP, have a look at Finnegan's garage on youtube. This guy had his C10 cab extended to give more room.

Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

Have a look at this thread. In there they discuss a method to do what you want:

Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

This thread is old but shows how to shorten a steering column. As has already been said, a tilt wheel and smaller diameter steering wheel will help as well.

Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

I'm 6' 5" and go around 265... I fit in my 1972 GMC with a stock wheel and bench seat just fine...

But I grew up in these trucks for 40 years and am used to fitting in them.

Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

so im 6' and 340lbs so i can feel your pain in some way. I moved the tank to under the bed, made my own seat brackets for the stock bench, and bought a new tilt steering column which by far made the biggest difference. With the new column, i had to redo the D-Shaft and moved the steering shaft about 3 to 4 inches towards the dash, along with the tilt and small steering wheel, lots of room.

Re: I need more room in the cab !!!

What I did was install buckets from a Blazer of that period. I then purchased a tilt from a van and did the swap of neutral switch and installed.
