Shock Recommendations
Need to replace the shocks on my 4WD. Not sure what brands are good and what brands to avoid. Any suggestions?

Nice truck! For the price, I like my KYB Gas-A-Justs but I have also heard nothing but good about Monroe Sensatracs. I'm sure there are better shocks out there for more money..... depends on what you expect and what you're willing to spend.

Bilstein is nice most off road guys i know run the 5100 ones.

Not looking for anything extreme, it spends more time on horrible city roads than dirt.
I've been told to avoid Rancho - yes? Will look at bilstein and kyb |

No personal experience with Ranchos.... KYB has firm control so may not give a very good ride on those rough streets. Sensatracs are supposed to offer a plusher ride. Bilstein has a rep as a very good premium shock, I don't know how they are priced but you sometimes get what you pay for....

I haven't used ranchos but haven't heard anything good about them either.

I've used Rancho shocks on a few different small and large trucks, and I have no complaints about them. In my opinion they are a good affordable everyday shock absorber.
I have used Bilstein 5100's as well, and I am contemplating installing them on my K20 Suburban. They are firm though, but they are great for abuse as far as shock absorbers go. Side note: I have them on my Tacoma in the rear, and when the bed was loaded along with pulling a trailer they performed great! Currently running Rancho 5000's on my Suburban, and they are pretty soft and being a heavy truck I think they are too weak. Hence the reason I am thinking about going Bilstein 5100's. I've heard good things about the Rancho adjustable units 9000's?

i have skyjacker nitros on my rig. and i love them. they dont beat ya to death like bilsteins can. if i have a load in the back it rides like a cadaliac. had ranchos on before lift, that came on the truck when i got it. but they were pretty used up by the time i got to em.

I've used Skyjacker Nitros and Hydros and like them both. My current 4x4 has Billstien shocks on it and they are holding up well.
