A couple tilt steering wheel colum questions?

I took the gear shift indicater cover off and there is something round with a plastic cover under there, what is it? I thought it might be a bulb, it is shaped like one, but its not?

Also I got a new shift indicator pointer. It slants at the end which sticks out and makes it off by one gear. So when in nuetral, it points to reverse. If it was straight, it would be correct?

That is a bulb holder and the indicator is correct. Try adjusting the linkage to fit.

I tried pulling that bulb out and i cannot get it out? It has a plastic cover on it that comes off? Should i break it and grab it with a needle nose pliers?
