Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build

I'm torn about what to do to the truck after the engine. I could get the 700r4 transmission rebuilt with a shift kit and a stall converter, or I could get a posi and put in the rear end as it is and open rear end right now, OR I could cut the frame and convert it into a swb, which is what I've always wanted to do to it.

What is your opinion on what I should do? If I convert it to a short bed, should I do fleetside or stepside? I've always kind of liked the look of stepsides, but I also like fleetside!

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build

Well not much has happened since I last posted. Got the valves set and now just need to bolt the intake on. Looks like I won't get to put the engine in this weekend after all though.

Looking at next weekend to put it in though!

Will start the engine transplant today! I will upload a video of how it sounds after the break-in.

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build

that 377 sounds mean, how does it do on the bottom end? ive been toying with the idea of building up a 377 in the future but im not a fan of a motor that needs to be run in the upper rpm to have any fun, were you satisfied with it?

To be honest, I haven't really driven it very hard yet, but it definitely kicks more than my old tired 350

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build

I'm not really sure, what do you guys think I should do? I could get the overdrive transmission built with a stall and shift kit or drop it 2 inches all around or maybe convert it to a short bed?

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build

if you do a lot of highway driving then i would get the overdrive for sure then lower it like you said, but if i were in your shoes i would leave it long i think long boxes look great with the right stance and wheels.

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build

Got the timing/carburetor set today, I think it's pretty close to where it needs to be, maybe not perfect though. I'll upload a video tomorrow when it's light out.

Also, now that I've set the carb/timing, it has LOTS more power!

Re: 1983 Chevy lwb slow build

No updates as of now. Looking to repaint the truck over the summer when I have some more money to spend on it. Then going to get a more built tranny along with a posi traction rearend. I would like to get somewhere around 3.73 gears.

No real updates as of now, but I plan on painting the truck sometime in September hopefully. I might even be able to drop it 2 inches all around whenever I get it painted.

Cam specs: http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ory_Code=HFTXE

The mufflers are some knock off brand flowmasters... I didn't have enough to buy real ones at the time, haha. Exhaust exits at the end of the truck straight out the back.

Thanks, I planned on taking that air cleaner off and putting a bigger one on anyways. I'm not a fan of how this one looks.
