Cool 67-72 Are Classics

For those who did see the info that GMC Paul gave I thought you all would find this very enjoyable....The info came from Classic Truck Mag., the point was this...The 67-72 Chevy/GMC Trucks have almost reached the icon status of Tri-Fives. The style of these trucks do not age plus it's the generation of trucks that started to add car like optons with power to spare. These trucks are known as the Custon Sports Truck area (CST).
Go to www.customclassictrucks.com/editorial/article.jsp?id=1429
This is a great write up on our trucks.

Remember...Anyone can drive or own a Ford or Dodge truck...But it takes someone with class to drive a 67-72 Chevy/GMC Truck.
Regards,
70cst

Good read, but I'm almost positive I read the same one about 2 years ago in Sport Truck.
Oh and I couldn't agree more with yellow72custom I like my longbed! Plus they made no metion of the longhorns. Maybe they need to talk to a couple of the guys with hotrod longhorns on this board (man those are cool)!

Why the emphasis on shortbed C10's ? Nothing personal guys but the shortbeds look silly to me not to mention the relative worthlessness as a truck of the stepsides. There was nothing in that article that even acknowledged the existence of 3/4 ton or one ton 67-72's . Having owned a dozen or so 1/2 tons and then this being my first 3/4 I'd have to say I'll never go back to a half ton. As we say out here in the boonies...

1/2 ton = half a truck!

For a truck theyre silly . A truck being something that you use to carry things from point "a" to point "b" . Sometimes heavy things. Thats just my opinion and my wife tells me what my opinion is worth on a regular basis so if you want to as well then dont feel bad.
Longhorn is the way to go IMHO. 4X4's could be the exception and I could even see them with stepsides not being completely useless. Why do the shortbeds and especially the teeny weeny stepside beds cost more? who knows. Maybe they appeal to women more or something so that adds another few million potential customers and it drives the price up. The car companies do a pretty good business selling minitrucks so apparently someone else is buying the concept but what kills me was the article saying that longbeds were basically only good for using for parts or cutting the frame to make a short bed out of.AARRRGGGHHH.

If you are just concerned with what your truck will haul you might as well have a Ford. So now it's a feminine thing to own a short bed? Hah. You are way off track dude.

This is my 23rd truck in 20 years. Ive had 17 chevrolets or GMC's , 4 fords and 2 dodges. All the full sized were full sized long bed with a couple of longhorns. Being concerned with what a truck will haul is a common consideration when chosing a truck. Thats why the factories sold a bunch of them that way and a lot less with short beds. Shortbeds and especially stepsides are less "usefull" as "trucks" by their very nature. Thats a fact thats difficult to dispute. If you are only concerned with styling than a stepside 1/2 ton is, I guess, a viable option but to pay more for that seems "silly" to me.
And girls do like them better. I just asked my wife, she agreed. My sister says yes too and so does mom. I'll ask around at work . Didnt say they were feminine. I just said girls like them too. Longbeds have a phallic thing going on that appeals to men but not so much to women it seems.

Just my 2 cents. The shortbeds look disproportionate: cab size to bed size. I like my regular fleetside longbed. Supply and demand drive up price. And it is only worth what you are willing to pay for it. I've only seen one shortbed here in my community. There are not many out there.

Joachim, your profile says you live in Concord, and you say you've only seen ONE SWB truck WHAT???
Dude there are more short bed trucks around here than I can count!
Just in the Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Concord area, there are many, many shortbed 67-72 chevy trucks. They're everywhere around here!
Can't believe you don't see them around.

BTW, I'm a carolina cajun too!

I agree with Joachim, I think the short box trucks look funny too. Like he said the box is out of proportion with the cab but thats my opinion, and I am not knocking all you shortbox lovers. I could build one just as well as I am doing a long bed but I wanted a better looking truck that rides better. SWB are fine, my LWB will never haul anything( other than ass) anymore but whatever, I think there is way to much emphasis put on shortbeds. If its got options a BB and it goes like hell who cares how long the box is, loaded longbeds aren't that common either. I see lots of both around here and the loaded trucks are all getting up there regardless of being 1/2, 3/4 or 1 ton long or short.

I like all of them. I have owned a short, and 2 longhorns. They both have advantages and disadvantages.
I hate trying to park the Longhorn. I had forgotten all about this. In a parking lot, you are better off backing into a spot. However, the ride...even with the heavy springs, is awsome. Great tow vehicle and very stable. Not to mention the looks and questions I always get.
The short beds are easier to get recognised in traffic byhot rodders though. I like the way they corner better, and the weight reduction is good if all you want to do is haul @ss.
I have found that a short bed with a box bolted in the back is almost worthless though. There has been many a time I said. "If only I had the Longhorn still..." when I'd be loading junk in the back.

I failed to mention I want to pull trailer, just not put stuff in the bed really cause of the floor I choose. Shortbeds are useless trailer pullers, I mean they work but they just don't handle well. Plus to many people think that SB's are just all that and i am sick of them. Longboxes forever, and a LWB can handle just as well, it just depends on the suspension.

I have never seen a shortbed 67-72 around here. I think the only shortbed in my town is a Ford Ranger owned by a kid. The shortbeds do appeal to women more because they have a sportier look. But I think longbeds look more STYLISH... kind of like a Cadillac, stylish but not sporty. Kind of like I like my dads dodge with all the chrome more than I do with my moms RAM Sport.

By the way.. I like longbeds better. You can do more with them and they look classier!!!

I don't think its a matter of swb vs.lwb. Its what you got and want.I prefer swb's,but want a lwb some day.As far as worth goes ask get what you can, here if it's not a swb it's a hard sell.

I agree with Joachim, Chevyman69, and mikep on this one. I've seen a few SWB trucks, and I have to say they do look disproportionate. The only way they don't seems to be if they're a 4x4. Then they sort of make up for the shortness with the height! lol

It's hard to say considering I like all of them, but I think mikep is right in terms of general use. I think everyone could probably agree that hauling 2x4s is a bit easier with an 8 1/2 ' bed! Things like that were considered when building the LWB truck. People who buy trucks with short beds obviously have different priorities then hauling lumber.

We also will have to agree that the rarer (regardless of practicality and wierdness) generally become classics faster than the ordinary. That means SWB trucks, CST styles, and longhorns will be worth more than the std. 3/4 C20.
