On a '71 should the rear red side marker lights flash? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

so this '71 GMC truck is a bit of a basket case that I am piecing together so it's hard for me to know how things were or are supposed to go, I bought a "good" used unmolested rear wiring harness and plugged that in to the intermediate green wire one, etc. etc.

I noticed the other night that when I turn on the turn signals the tail lights flash but the red side markets on either side of the bed do not, are they supposed to? The side markers do eluminate when I turn on the lights but they just stay on constantly.
