99 silverado fuel tank.

Where would be a good place to order a fuel tank for my truck. My pump finally took a dive on me. And in the process of figure out which pump i have. I noticed the ring and tabs are pretty rusted. Am i correct in assuming once i start messing with it that the tabs will end up breaking off. If so would i be better off getting a new tank. And just not worring about the old one. Ive looked at the usual spots for a tank. No luck. Lmc. Amazon. Rockauto. Is this tank not a repo yet.

Re: 99 silverado fuel tank.

I have worked on some nasty, rusty, dirty ugly looking ones over the years and have not broke a tab off yet.

If your pump is toast you are not going anywhere anyhow so clean it up and try removing it, you may be surprised.

Blow all the dirt off then scrub the area off with a brush and water as solvent does not do much to remove dirt.

Blow off the water then give it a good soaking with your favorite lube.

Personally I use a hammer with a 10 inch long brass drift.

Work your way around until things break free and you are good to go.

Re: 99 silverado fuel tank.

Well i didnt pull the tank. I resprayed the ring a couple of times. Scraped away some of the rust. Hammered a bit on it. And decided to give it a go. Ring finally came off. Didnt break any tabs. So now my truck is up and running again. Now i can continue working on other thing like the leaking brake line. Ill start a post for that one. Thanks for the advice on the pump.
