Horn button assembly

I keep looking but can't find any good info on horn button assembly for my 66 c10. I am wanting to find out the correct order of the parts.
Can anyone help me? I am sure everyone has pulled their steering wheel off before. The PO had mounted a button on the dash for a horn button but I am trying to put everything back to the way it is suppose to be.
Thanks for your help, you guys are great.

Re: Horn button assembly

The center cap could have a ring of rubber like the predecessors, that allows you to compress the center cap, onto the drum.

Re: Horn button assembly

What order should all the parts be in on the steering wheel? I see the parts but what goes first then second then third?

Re: Horn button assembly

Hi zane2513,

From the pics you posted, it looks like you have all the pieces.

1st to go in is the spring loaded contact plunger ... that's shown correctly installed in your 4th pic.

2nd is the flat spring metal washer (shown in your last pic). Note that it is tapered (not flat) and should be installed so the outer edge lies flat against the steering wheel. The inner edge should be slightly above the center part of the steering wheel (right around the nut). This is the part that makes electrical contact between the above mentioned plunger and the center of the steering wheel. So that area of the steering wheel right around the nut needs to be clean and rust free for good electrical contact.

3rd is the clear plastic spacer shown in your last pic.

4th is the metal cup (also shown in the last pic).

5th is the plastic ring with the 3 screws (shown in the last pic as well).

Finally the chrome cap with the rubber retainer ring goes on last.
