Cool 1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread

Hey, my name is James. Never been into america cars really, but I flip houses and I was borrowing a truck and decided I need to get my own. Ive owned a 1967 Volkswagen bug and a 98 Subaru Forester, both of which I couldnt help and modded them both. I hope I dont modify anything on this truck because its the most original vehicle that Ive ever owned. Only a few pics for now until I pull out my good camera and shoot it. Here are a couple just so we have them for before and after pics. Ill give more details on the thing in an upcoming post....

Picture from the seller before I drove across the state to pick it up:

In Spokane, WA about to head back to the westside:

Motor Before picture:

Okay so now I'll note some of the things that I have done to the car, I have replaced all the coolant hoses, replace valve cover gaskets, painted valve covers chevy orange, painted the air cleaner black, removed the farmtruck side walls on the bed, installed a cigarette lighter to charge my phone, just gave it an oil change today, new radiator cap, new windshield wipers as the ones I bought it with were OG, yeah you read that right, OG wipers of all things. I have only had time to buff out one section of the paint but the paint on this thing is going to be epic when buffed. More Pics:

New vs old heater core (the og one cracked on me and leaked coolant when I put the new hoses on):

Inside the blower and heater core chamber, 50 years of pine needles in this thing!!!:

And here is a pic of it parked outside one of the properties I am currently flipping:

Like I said, once I buff it out Ill take some good quality pics. I will make sure and do some before and afters also. I also ordered new exhaust manifolds and gaskets so Ill likely have those installed soon and painted silver, because the ones on there now are rusttttyyyyy. Thats all for now.

Love the originality, and glad you're going to keep it that way. Great find.

Wow, you guys literally get so much rain that moss literally grows on roofs? Wow.

Awesome truck, that green is my 2nd favorite factory color.

Got some time quick to buff it out. Pic time

Left side is polished and right side is before

I have determined that this passenger fender is the only body panel that is not og paint, but seems to have been done long ago as the paint has faded equally with the rest of the paint.

Interior is all there no rips in the seat material, mexican blanket in there just to protect the vinyl from tearing.

Details

Perfect ceiling paint

Very slight patina on the hood, cannot really tell in this picture

Cannot believe that this paint is 50 years old, its nuts

Installed a cigarette lighter in the dash so I can charge my devices, it only had a plastic blank in there which is pretty cool that no one ever decided to change it out in the life of the truck until now

Interior is mint, in condition and in color

That thing is crazy nice- really glad to see it's in good hands! You're right about the pass. fender not being original paint, looks like someone replaced the fender at some point with a 67 fender (no marker light). It does match the original paint- looking good!

Okay question? Whats the deal with the red bow ties? Its like that on the side markers as well, but the hubcaps have yellow bowties? Are the caps incorrect or was chevy just inconsistent with bowtie colors. if the caps are wrong then what style do I need? Also I need that chrome trim that goes on the fender for the passenger side? whats a good parts dealer i can order through via online?

Re: 1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread

Those are newer caps, I am running the chrome version of those on my 67, mine are off of a 75 C20. 67/68 were unique, I don't have access to a pic at the moment, though.

Also GM did change from yellow to blue, not sure which years though. 67/68 were red I believe, but I may be wrong

Check out this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...eelsespecially post # 9 a post # 13. IMO, original trucks deserve original rims. 16.5 tires are still available, and worth a few bucks more, but finding original 16.5" wheels with clips will require some doing. If you are as serious about the "look", they can be found.

is that what wouldve come on this truck? those wider steelies? Also does that make my truck a camper? Im still not sure what the deal is with campers as the spec are all over the place. I will post my build sheet so we can all examine it

LOTS of duct tape and bailing wire... Lol there are factory spare tire carriers, mine happened to be removed at the dealer for the camper slide out bumper.
