That's how I feel! I feel kinda bad pulling the stepside bed, but the fleet does make for a much cleaner looking truck.

Yeah, she's a keeper. Gettin' hitched in a few weeks! She used to hate it, now it's "pretty." She also fully understands that (other than her) it's what makes me "happy." I also drive a 00 silverado and 99 s-10 to "save money." No car payments = more money to spend on toys.

Swap beds

The nice thing about my truck already being done is that I can finally take my time! I'll be the first to admit my truck is a real nice 10 footer. It could have used a couple more coats of primer, and believe it or not, the truck was never block sanded, didn't have the time!

This time I plan on getting the fleet bed 100% redone (minus paint, so the colors match) before I start on reworking the rest of the truck again. That means all metalwork (it needs a good bit), all body work, blocking and priming. Probably a good year or two away. I'm in no hurry.

I also have the original doors from the truck (contrary to what I said earlier in the thread, the tri plus doors suck. The fenders are worth the money, but unless they've made the doors thicker they're nowhere near as good as factory doors.) I plan on repairing and reinstalling my factory doors.

I also want to get a new hood. Mine is tweaked, had a large dent on the DS that is bondoed, and has a lot of "ding damage" I don't have the patience for. Decent hoods are relatively cheap.

I can get all of that stuff near perfect before I touch my "done" truck.

I also have an itch to replace the 700r4 with an nv3500...

It blows really really really cold air. Works awesome even in 95+ degree temps.

It's pretty detailed, so here's the finished products:
Oh man! Now I'm jealous...

Dang it...

Now I need to get vintage air... that is way too cool. Looks awesome, like the truck was built with a/c.

Sweeeeeet.

My plans to buy a home in the next couple months went to poo when I lost my job last week

The vintage air kit is really nice.

Oh, I did pick up a new hood at Charlotte a couple months ago and installed smaller trim rings on the wheels, these one's don't hide the rims so much! The hood is super straight and from what I can tell, ding free!

You can see what I mean about the rims here (comparison pics.)

I always admired your truck, but never even noticed the build thread. You did a helluva job on the truck and you should be proud of it.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

Thanks I am very proud of her Part of the reason I did it all myself is that I'm too cheap and stubborn to let anyone else do any work on it. I don't even like bringing my vehicles in for alignments (but I do.)

I actually bought more parts off of fleabay. I want to go back to all GM steel. These came in just this afternoon on a greyhound from California

I also got a nice tailgate for my fleet bed from a board member.

I have LOTS of work I can do while I still enjoy the truck as-is.

Man i am impressed. Like you said in there the truck is not perfect but you had the drive to make it happen and do it yourself. I have a lot of respect for the home built project. Your truck has come a long way and i think you are in a great situation where you can drive and enjoy and still work on it, as opposed to the park it for years and build. Looking forward to seeing your work in the future.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

I also went to Columbia and picked up all of my old truck parts and I also bought some nice front fenders from a board member, and yes, I'm fully aware they are for a 69-72...

OK, so still no garage to call my own, but I don't get down to Columbia often anymore so I had to spend a couple hours rearranging my storage unit. At least this stuff won't be sitting outside anymore.

The doors are WAAAAY nicer than I remember, still not as nice as in the pics, but VERY VERY fixable! Definitely going back on the truck to replace the flimsy aftermarket doors. And yes, the big fugly dumbo mirrors will be coming off immediately I'll be using stock 67-70 mirrors (same ones on the truck now.)

The rear fenders are really nice too, they just need a couple small patches. I stripped these myself many years ago, they are very straight and have minimal bondo.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

No, start another build thread for my current truck. I'll be the first to admit that my truck was a total quickie. It was a dash to get it drivable with decent paint buying as many upgrades and parts as I could before I got married and the wife put the hammer down on my spending

The 67 is going to undergo another transformation. It's going to be a dropped fleetside (I'm thinking 3.5/5 with the same rims/tires it has now) with the correct 67-68 side trim. I basically want a 67 CST Fleetside clone. The good news is that I have this large stash of parts that I can work on, get all cleaned up, replace the rust, and get ready for paint long before I ever touch the currently "finished" truck. She'll probably "look the same" for another 2 years or so. I'm going to take my time this time, and yes, that means an eventual... frame off...

Well the truck came out extremely nice. I only have two complaints... 1, it's not mine. 2, you had said earlier in the thread that you were not building a show truck. on that you have failed because this is a beautiful build.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to version 2.0 myself

I got the garage... but now I have to finish the house remodel (The majority of the work and changes were my idea, not my wifes, I'm really picky.)
