Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

I was not happy with my first attempt at the front piece. It was a straight piece cut down, like the back piece. It just looked too goofy and would NOT bend without kinking.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Then I had an epiphany... I was messing with the cab corner pieces and a DS piece upside down on the PS fender was a damn near perfect fit if you chopped off the end.

My thought was that if the front of the fender matched the back of the cab, it would look like it was supposed to be that way?

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Next came drilling holes... wasn't excited about that, but I used the factory assembly manual and put them pretty much where GM put them and mounted it up.

The last pic is from the Run to the Sun show in Myrtle Beach this past weekend... and yes, my old brittle overflow bottle cracked and leaked everywhere.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Not sure when I'll get to the driver side

The cab corners are $41 each from Mar-K and I need them both...

But there you go, a 67/68 C10 with CST trim on a step bed. Pretty cool.

Pretty cool. I was just talking to someone about wanting to do this to my '67 the other day. Looks good!

The trim looks good and sets the truck off nicely! Is the trim new reproduction?

Yes, the Mar-K stuff, so not something most people would cut up

I'd like to note that I looked at A LOT of C10's this past weekend at Run to the Sun (well over 3,500 classics). I saw a ton of trucks with OEM trim and aftermarket. The OEM was obvious. There was a lot of trucks with new trim and after spending so much time installing the Mar-K stuff I did notice quite a difference between what appeared to be Mar-K trim and what appeared to be "other" aftermarket trim. Mar-K's stuff hands down looked better.

Thank you! It's been an 8 year ongoing project that is coming to a realistic end soon Inside is 98% done, exterior will be 100% hopefully in 2 months. I'll completely finish the inside winter 2018. All that's left is a closet and some trim in the computer room.

Few cool pics from this weekend:

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

My truck let me know on the +/-550 mile round trip to Myrtle Beach that I've been neglecting her. The PS caliper is sticking/grabbing and the radiator decided to come apart at the tank seam. Looking my braking system over, it's time for a new MC, prop valve, calipers and rear hose (front hoses/lines are new). The rear hose looks like an absolute PIA to do on a lowered truck too... but it's crispy.

I already ordered a new Engineered Cooling Products radiator (had one in my mustang and it seemed really high quality.)

I'm also going to finally install the PS on the truck. This is going to be $. I have everything off of a 71, but most of it is only good for a core. Redhead gear, new lines, and PS pump will be ordered... and I'll be heatin' and smacking my frame.

...and the A/C has developed another leak and run dry I can't really complain though, it went 10+ years trouble free.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

What else...

New radiator from engineered cooling products (have one in my 65 mustang too, very nice piece for the price) and a new recovery tank set up from Frank (pickmup)

I cleaned the interior to the best it's looked in years. Replaced all 4 speakers, new speaker wire, and finally a stereo head unit with a usb/aux port for phone/ipod.

One of the coolest things I did was add the full custom fabrication lowered seat brackets. After I redid my seat I sat with my head almost touching the roof and after 2 years the seat still wasn't "broken in" so I installed the lower brackets. It's great, I now sit about where I used to sit when the seat was all worn out

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

A lot has happened in the last year... I kinda finished the house... man was that a lot of work. Exterior is 100% done. I have a few things to finish inside, but nothing the wife is pestering me about, so inside is technically done too

I did 100% of all of the siding, soffit, tin, and shutter work by myself. Off of a bucket truck. It took a long time.

I guess I don't have any good ones of the front done without snow.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Ran out of pic space, but this is what it looked like when we bought it. These pics were from 9 years ago. By the time I swapped out the siding it left a chalky powder on your hands if you touched it, pretty sure it was the cheapest grade stuff you could get, I think the house is 21 years old this year. We also went with a much lighter roof color which is supposed to help with keeping it cooler in the South.

and after the MASSIVE tree was removed:

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

...and finally, my C10 WILL be getting a home this year. I've started looking into tree removal (the giant lelands will have to go ) and getting names of grading/concrete guys.

My current plan is 26/28 by 48/50. Yes, I'm going to squeeze it out as large as I can. It will depend on how close I can get to my current garage (looking at +/-10' right now) which would leave +/-10' on my neighbors side with a 28' garage

For the size I'm building, I can't afford to pay someone to build it. I have 23K saved up and I'll be lucky if it covers the trees, foundation/grading (have to cut into a 3' hill on one side) and *maybe* the wall framing/electric.

I plan to have the grading/concrete work farmed out along with the electrical to the garage. I can handle the inside part. I will also be building the walls, buying pre-made truss, probably hiring a crane to help install them, then doing the roof myself. I'll also handle the windows, man doors, and siding. I will have the 10' doors installed. I think I might install the sheetrock, but pay to have it mud/sanded. Just thinking outloud. Getting pretty excited about it. Even doing it as I'm listing will probably set me back 40/45K. It's gotten expensive to do a traditional stick garage.

And yes, I know a metal garage will cost half and be done in a week, but I had to promise the wife it would be a stick build to match the house, and I will be ordering truss to utilize the center area as a bonus storage area.

I'll be happy if I can park a car in an enclosed shell by the end of summer. So with that said... aside from rebuilding the carb and keeping it rolling, the C10 is done for at least another year or so. I put the bed and all my good parts in dry storage.

My layout idea You can see why the trees need to go. I don't have much other options, I have a 50' easement on either side of the wires you see in pic below. The easement is almost only 10/15' off the back corner of the house.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Thanks for the updates. Nice work on the house too. Some days I wish I had a place to work without having to move the house just to do it. My little shed is just that, little. Good luck on the new garage and keep us posted.

The bigger the better, and I'd say a 26 x 48 is BIG! Congrats man! I watched some of your work on the alternate tinkerings thread, and I must say, the house looks just fantastic! I really like the blue ceiling on the porch... I showed my wife and she wants our front porch ceiling the same color now. I can't wait to see your shop built!

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

I'm excited. For years all I had was a parking lot at an apartment.

I have a couple more weekends of "stuff" to get done, then I'll be focusing on the shop. My dad just came down to visit this past weekend and went home with a CLEAN 87 Silverado.

28x48 sounds big... until you put a 67 C10, 68 firebird, 2015 silverado, and 2011 Mustang in it with tools and parts (that's why the upstairs storage area is so important, that area will be huge. I might even partition a section of it off someday and heat/cool it for a game room? One of the biggests pushes to help get my wife on board with the size (and expense) was that our vehicles have been damaged by hail 3 different times since we moved into this house. If me building a garage means it never hails at my house again, so be it, I'll be happy either way

The blue ceiling is a lousianna/southern coastal city thing. You see them all over Charleston/Savannah, etc. It was to keep the "boo hag" (spirits) away. I don't believe in any of that folklore, but it is a really cool look. The color is "Haint" blue, but it's not an actual color I found out... it's a range of colors... home depot and lowes looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for it so I found one I think looked the best within that range.
