stepside bed liner ?

Have any of you seen a spray on or roll on bed liner used in a stepside bed with wood floor? Aesthetically it wouldn't be much on looks but for a durability standpoint wouldn't it seal the wood well? I had a spray on liner in one of my 97 GMCs and really liked it. It was Herculiner or Duraliner maybe? Back then it costs something like $400 to have done. The stuff was like 1/4" thick and did not peel. Things didn't slide around on the stuff either.
Any pics of your applications?

I know linex can be put on wood...but I've never seen it done....http://www.linex.com/protective-coatings
if you didn't completely coat the boards you'd still have exposed wood ...to a extent..

Re: stepside bed liner ?

My brother has a 65 Chevy long stepper. I don't remember the exact specifics, but he took the wood strips out (bad), laid down plywood, and screwed bed strips on top of that. At that time one of my sons was working at Ryno Liner and he sprayed the whole inside of the bed for my brother. No problems, worked great. Been years ago and the liner held up fine all the time he was driving the truck. Its been parked for quite a few years under cover, no idea what it looks like these days.

Re: stepside bed liner ?

one downside would be spraying over the strips and bolts...if you ever wanted to take it apart...

Re: stepside bed liner ?

No pictures, but guy I worked with had his done. His bed was marine grade plywood, not the normal boards. Didn't look too bad, but he was looking for durability. I think he used linex as he had it colored to mtach close to the truck color (light blue). This was 15+ years ago, so no pictures. I know he was stationed here about 5 years and had no issues with it.

Re: stepside bed liner ?

My thinking on it was to install planks or plywood with the plain steel strips bolted down then spray over effectively sealing and protecting the wood from moisture and the strips and bolts against rust. Sounds good in theory.
One could also use a composite decking for the floor and only have to contend with rusting strips and bolts or use stainless strips and hardware. It all adds up.
I am thinking more of a working truck bed application is all.

Re: stepside bed liner ?

I have seen numerous 4wd like blazers, jeeps and broncos where they used a roll on bedliner material on the interior floor and sides. It fits that type of vehicle too. I’ve no idea how well it holds up but it costs less than say Rhinoliner.

Re: stepside bed liner ?

I had one truck I did with the stuff sold at Walmart. Prep work is important, but it held up pretty good and was easy/cheap to fix which the guy who now has the truck had to do once because of being overly clumsy.

Re: stepside bed liner ?

I don't see the reason. My 68 had a wood bed floor and it lasted 30+ years. It sat out side its whole life
