Re: New 1958 Project

Cleaned up one side of one of the lower control arms with a little free time yesterday, plenty more to do on these, got the tires mounted, happy with the result, frame will get back on the rotisserie today for last of the welding, then back on the ground for mocking up fuel and brake lines, bumper mounts etc.

Looking great! What wheels are those? Same size wheels and tires as you mentioned a couple of posts back?

Cheers, Jim

Re: New 1958 Project

Getting some work done, fabricated the higher cross sills for the bed floor, stacked a second rear cross sill behind the tailgate, perfect height, motor and trans mounts finally set, moved the drivers side motor mount forward to clear the steering shaft for the Corvette rack, ride height should be a little lower in the front when done, a few pics

Re: New 1958 Project

Here's a shot of the first attempt I made at it, I left the rear frame section intact, tac welded the new notch above it, turned out to be way too high, I'll measure it tonight

Re: New 1958 Project

Putting it like the first photo should about get you as low as you want, the length of the top section of the new frame is 16" measured on the bottom side of the piece (only spot I could get to for measure right now)
Here is a crummy shot of how much I took out to get it where it is today

Re: New 1958 Project

Corvettruck. This is a great thread, you're way ahead of me, I will be doing the same build that you have here. Mine is 57 GMC with 96 C-4 syspension. Great information, looks assume. What is the set back that you have for the front rims and the back as well. Thanks NC

18X8 fronts are 4.5" backspaced
20X10 rears are 5.5 backspaced
I'll probably add a spacer to the fronts to move them out closer to the fender lip, we'll see how it ends up, I believe the 96 Corvette front has a wider track than the 86 I am using FYI

Re: New 1958 Project

Holy smokes, almost a year since I last posted! Paint booth built, gas pump with retractable garden hose in it restored, trailer painted, sheet metal ordered for truck, be here next week.
Frame mocked up, stripped ready for paint next weekend, I'll need to make a point to update site weekly!!
Here's a few photos
