Shipping a Headliner ?
Have a nice original '71 dated blue headliner I won't be using. Will be offering it for sale later but looking for ideas on how to ship so it won't arrive bent and twisted. Obviously can use 1'' x 2'' or such to build a framed box but what to cover it with that will not add serious weight for shipping costs? Shipping useless weight is not very favorable. Would cardboard be sufficient? Even 1/4'' OSB may add to much weight and kill the deal. Anyone have some tips to ship such?

Use a mailing tube if it's flexible enough.

If I was trying to ship it I would buy that cheap thin fiberboard from home depot. It cannot be that expensive and it is super light. But 4 small corner pads (foam?) and tape the edges. Wrap it up in brown paper and call it a day.

most carriers would consider that oversized and will charge u a premium price to ship it
i'd stick with a local sale no shipping must b picked up type of deal

I just got a headliner for my 62 Unibody from Dennis Carpenters and its much bigger than the ones for our trucks. It came in extra stiff cardboard. No damage. But I have to agree with cdowns ... try to sell it locally. Personally I dont like shipping as it is, but something like this makes it even less "fun" =)

1x2,1/2"foam sheathing on either side,wrapped in shrink wrap or staple cardboard

Thanks for all the replies, gave me some good ideas for sure. Nothing worse than buying a good useable part and receiving it in less than useable condition. Been down that road when I bought a "nice" dash pad for a '91 4x4 Burb I had several years ago. Seller did a pretty poor job of packing and UPS expanded on the poorness of the packing. Needless to say it was not useable as arrived.

Gary, I ship them on 1/4 inch plywood then wrap them with cardboard. It cost to ship one like this but if you don't and roll it up it won't hold its shape again

Thanks for the tip Randy. Guess I need to wipe down the headliner with some vinyl cleaner and get a couple pictures up on the parts forum. Are you going to make the Hutchison Swap meet this month, Oct. 26th & 27th? Not a huge meet but last one locally I know of for the year.
