Factory dually two tone paint.

I plan on painting my crew cab dually in a two tone paint like a factory 87 chevy with the insert down the side. Does anyone have any pics to give me a good idea on how to do it around the rear dually fenders.

From everything I have seen they never did paint over the fender flairs. Just up to the flair, and then used trim to hide the paint lines. Here is a pic of my 75 bed. If they went over the flair then it was most likely a custom job.

Re: Factory dually two tone paint.

Thanks. I'm not wanting to go over the fender but wanting to do the top paint line up higher where the 81-87 had the two tone line since mine will have a pinstripe to break it.

Re: Factory dually two tone paint.

I'm looking for this two tone on a dually. Not sure if they made them or not but its what I want on mine. If anyone has pics or a photoshop post them up because I can't seem to find one.

Re: Factory dually two tone paint.

I think that the RPO ZY5 exterior décor package shown on the black and silver truck above was not available when you ordered RO5 dual rear wheels. Only the ZY9 heavy hauler 2 tone was available on the mid 80's one tons with fleetside beds and dual rear wheels. But just because they were not factory made does not mean you cant paint it like you want it.

Here is my 82:

Re: Factory dually two tone paint.

From what you are showing me in the above picture that upper line is at the very top of the fender flair. Easy to do!

Re: Factory dually two tone paint.

I was only able to find a few pics of the 80's style two tones. Two of them is what I think you are looking for and the others are a different two tone. From what I can tell the lines are the same as the pic you posted. Looks like the fender is just going to be a solid color.

Re: Factory dually two tone paint.

Thanks guys, I'm planning doing the truck charcoal with a burgundy insert and wanted some ideas on if I should do it like the black and silver truck I posted and just leave the whole dually fender charcoal.

For 1980 and prior, the paint stops at the fender but the trim itself extends up onto the fender, as shown in the attached.

Keith are you familiar with Chuck Luevano - GM Proving ground engineer. He is my brother in law. Just wondering if you ever crossed paths.

The name rings a bell but he is not coming up in our online org chart. Is he still working?

No he left company a little while ago. He had worked at the proving grounds for quite a long time. Oh well no worries!

I just started going through your build thread on your red truck. Here is my build thread on my 75 Dually. Check it out if you get a chance. http://www.duallyscene.com/forums/pr...lin-t7688.html

Keith I see you restored a Farmall tractor. Very cool! I am a sales manager for Case IH and we still sell a ton of Farmall's, but today our little Farmall tractors are radically different. Plus our big tractors are getting bigger every year, right now we are at 620 hp.

Somewhere around there. I thought 1977 trucks had gold paint in the trim.

Correct. It is any year between '73 and '80 EXCEPT a '77...

i think the grill looks the same as my 78 too
