69 c10 crown vic frame

Hello all. Thought I would post up a few pics of my build progress. I'm working on a 69 c10 shortbed. I got a 05 Vic for my dad's 62 unibody. He wanted the engine so I took the frame. I'm working on putting the motor and trans in now. Will post more pics as I progress. All input and feedback is appreciated.

What are the advantages of using a crown vic chassis? Does it have cop brakes, cop shocks,etc...

Re: 69 c10 crown vic frame

Disc all around, 4 link with a wats link, and it's already pretty low. I'm planning on bagging it. I had a 2000 tahoe frame but it would be a lot more work imo. Also I had bought a crown vic for 500 because my dad wanted the engine so I took the frame. I know its a lot of work but that's half the fun right?

02 and newer Crown Vic has a drop out IFS that Ford f-100 guys put in place of the old twin I beam suspension.
I sold a couple of them for around $500 each. If it is a cop car it will have Posi with decent gears, and an aluminum drive shaft.

Re: 69 c10 crown vic frame

Unfortunately it isn't an intercepter. I ended up shortening the gm drive shaft and getting a different cap size on the rear u joint. But I'm only in it 500 bucks for the whole crown vic! My issue now is the truck oil pan hangs down about 4 inches lower than the frame. Saving for a ls1 oil pan because they aren't as deep.

My father in laws 62 unibody with a 2000 marquis mercury under it with dash and all the floor. We cut the bottom off the mercury and the top off the truck and welded them back together. Rides great but a lot of work.

I'll measure the vic frame when I get home. I'll pull the tarp off the c10 so you can see how it sets. I'll post a pic.

I like all cars/trucks, not just our Bowties. That being said, that Ford Unibody looks very cool!

I watched that episode. The body mount on the c10 are back a bit further so I won't be able to do what he did. Interested to see how the get the a/c and heater working on the truck.

Re: 69 c10 crown vic frame

Got my motor mounts all fabbed up. Just need paint. Rattle can should work. Right? Paranoid about my tail shaft lining up with rear end. Any suggestions? It's as close as I could get with a tape measure and eye balling. I saw some guy using lasers and cardboard to line everything up but I'm not dragging this truck. Low and slow for me. Also looking for an ls1 pan, dip, windage tray, and pickup tube if anybody is selling. Tafn.

Re: 69 c10 crown vic frame

Little update. For the motor mounts finished and the motor/driveshaft in. Had the driveshaft shortened a little over an inch. Leaves about 1 1/4" of travel. I think it will be perfect for when the bags are installed. Also cut a channel for the drive shaft to come up into the cab. Working on c-nothing the main can supports. I'm going to redo the notch at more of an angle so I have more support. More pics to come. Tafn

Re: 69 c10 crown vic frame

Anybody ever do a body drop on a c10? Was looking around at the metal shop and they had 2 x 6 square tuning on sale so I picked up a few lengths. Plan is to move the frame in around 3" and down. Going to take the springs out to see how far down I have to make my new frame so I can slam it down. But...then I have to drop the body down to cover the new frame. The pan is rusted out in all 4 corners and well as around the rockers so it will have to replaced anyway. This should be fun.

Re: 69 c10 crown vic frame

I was just thinking today that the Crown Vic must have been one of the most "sorted out" platforms ever built. Millions of cab drivers and police using and abusing them for a decade of feedback and analysis... if Ford took all of that data to heart, that thing must have been bulletproof by the final years!

Its pretty solid brake and suspension wise. It seems pretty simple to integrate an older f1 or f100 to the vic chassis. I also read the interceptor comes with some with some sort of posi. But Chevy runs deep lol.

Re: 69 c10 crown vic frame

A few progress pics. Seems to be pretty "simple". This is way more work than I originally wanted to do with this truck but I get so far and say fudge it, might as well go all the way
